Sept. 26.— The stock mar ket still maintains its professional character, and it looks very much as if the activity and advance in cotton an. l wheat has diverted the attention of outsiders, at leas) for the time being, to these products. The cent remarkable rise in cotton. followed up to-day by a gain of 2c in wheat, fully explains the indifference of the speculating public to the prcs.nt dull and narrow stock market. As a result, the market for stocks was entirely pro fessional. At the opening the iudustrials were strong, especially lor sugar and •tobacco. Sugar rose about a point to 108%. The refusal of the governing committee to take definite action in the matter of damage and regular statements from the company has been favorably construe;! by oper ators. CHICAGO. I] i.Sept. 26. -The "shorts" in wheat apparently overstepped the mark in their selling yesterday, and this morning found offerings a little scant. This led to firmness at the opening and to a slight advance during the first few moments, after which the market fell into a condition of in activity, with prices holding at about one Quotation throughout the morning . There was 'no trading worthy of note and the news was confined to the routine- announcements. The Cincinnati Price Current reported restricted offerings of winter wheat at interior points. Receipts at Dulutb this morning were 31 cars, and at Minneapolis 721 Chicago had 69 cars and inspected out 40,729 bushels. Liverpool opening cables were lower but firmness rules at the decline. ' The latter part of the session was remarkable for the distinct strength, local bulls exerting them .selves and forcing an advance of over lc from the point sttaineri during the morning. December wheat opened from 69ys to 69i,4c, advanced to til 14c, dosing at 6iy B @6l%c— 2c higher than yes terday. Estl mated receipts for to-morrow, 78 cars. Corn 'was quiet and the tone was steady. The Cincinnati Price Current stated that the crop was secore. With that assured the trade relies now on the consumptive demand, Prices rule so low at the present time that few feel like assuming an ag gressive attitude against them. Liverpool cables were lower. Receipts were 45»9 cars. 111 less :h m expected. Withdrawals from store. 167,301 bush els, and 88,226 bushels cleared at tho seaboard. Oats held steady without distinguishing them selves for activity. The sentiment was inclined to strength through' sympathy with wheat ami corn. Receipts were 363 cars, and 90,000 bushels were taken from store. May oats closed ygfcjtVic higher than yesterday. Estimated receipts: for to-morrow 350 cars. Flux was quiet. All articles were firm, the October delivery particularly so, This would indicate that "shorts" were liquidating. That, in fact, was the character of the greater portion of to-day's busi ness.
