Vocal selections, consisting of Scottish
song-s, were rendered by Miss Mignon
Judson and J. Hughes Davis. Piano solos
were played by Miss Maybelle Kelly and
Mrs. L. Heyneman acted as accompanist.
The British-American Union gave its
monthly entertainment at the Academy of
Sciences last night, when the Rev. Dr.
W. K. , Guthrie delivered an address on
"Scotland. "''.The strong characteristics of
the 'Scot were 'portrayed. Including his
charitable ' disposition g and -. his frugality,
which, Dr. Guthrie demonstrated, was not
follcwed for selfish motives, but with the
object of achieving: '¦• something tangible
and ministering -to the needs of others.
The Scotchman, said the doctor, held
some of the. highest positions in the com
mercial walks of life. He was trusted for
his integrity and his: loyalty could be de
pended upon in whatever position he. held.
In war his bravery was acknowledged, in
the world of letters he held first rank.
At the conclusion, of the address Wil
liam • Greer Harrison, in speaking of the
advent of the New Tear, spoke feellngly
of the late Queen Victoria and in memory
of her the whole of the vast audience
arose while a prayer was said by Dr.
Guthrie.,
