BOSTON. May 27. — Under the lead of ' Ama
lgamated all tbe . coppers - closed strong.- and
active. Massachusetts -was one of the features,
selling np to 17% on the -best kind of buying.
Superior and Boston is very . scarce, advancing
two points today -on- scattered buying. C*g - -
•A report- today was that, a large smelter
would be . erected. In. -the- Arlrona district . to
handle the ores of the Ray and Miami camp*, j
J. S. Bacbe & Co. of New York say: "Tne
copper market continues to show indications Of
betterment. Copper producers are 1 very optim
istic, and 6ome of them believe that copper will
be established on a 15c basis before , the^.close
•f tbft year. Another gives his opinion > that the
meldng of copper in , the .\u25a0 United "• States - and
Europe is. today fully equal to th* production,,
which notwithstanding Is at | the high potnt of
1,300.000.000 pounds per annum. ' In .1908 the
production was 050,000.000 and -10. years earlier
only 350,000.000 pounds per - unnnm. One 'of
the* selling companies says that* exports of cop
per show a . remarkable power of absorption; by
