MRS. CLAY TO GIVE RECEPTION TODAY Fruitvale; Affair to :Be East Brilliant "At Home" of Season Several Hundred Folk About Bay to Attend—Other Society News OAKLAND, May 22.—The last bril liant "at home" of. the season will' be given tomorrow afternoon, when Mrs. Philip T. Clay receives- several hun dred of the smart set about the bay' at her home in Fruitvale. The tea was arranged in honor of Mrs. Harden Lake Crawford,'*.'who is returning •shortly to her New York home, and Mrs. H. Warren Harrold, formerly Miss Made line Clay, a popular bride of the spring. Mrs. Crawford came west to attend her sister's wedding, and their brother's wife is taking, this occasion to com pliment both. -, i ~ ; The Clay residence will be turned into a rose bower for the affair. The betrothal was announced several months ago. The bride elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Baird. The family comes from Scotland. ~ Miss Baird Is gifted as a musician and has 7 the advantages which come from foreign travel. * She has devoted several years to a study of library work. Mr.White Is a graduate of the University of California. During his undergraduate days he was presi dent of the Young Men's Christian association. He Is established in the hay cities as an attorney;; Miss Baird is being feted in the few weeks which remain before her -marriage. The marriage of Prof. Russell Tracy Crawford and Miss Helen Young was solemnized tonight, only members of the immediate families and a few close friends witnessing the ceremony, which was read by the bride's father, Rev. Charles A. Young. Miss Helen Beck-with, as maid of honor, and Dr. Sumner Hardy as best man. were the only attendants. Returning from their honeymoon trip the couple will estab lish their home in Berkeley. Professor Crawford is connected with the fac ulty of the University of California. His wife gave up her college \ career when her betrothal was announced a few months ago. She is a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. -"XX.-y The wedding, of Miss lone Connor and Henry Guerin will be in the later summer.
