IN the month of November or December last,
at the time the Court House in Knoxville was ta
ken by the' military authorities under General
Murnside for a hospital for the sick, I bad a writing
(les.k with twn drawers, folding top or top working
on hinges, and a small box of pigeon holes, in one
of the ( lei'ks' otliees of the Court House. During
the time th1.' Court House was used us a hospital, the
ollice containing the desk was occupied by the
medical department, and the desk was used by
thenv. The desk contained a large number of val
uable papers and some ta, books and receipts, and
V arious ofiicinl and private papers of much Value to
me. Since the military have left the Court House,
I have made diligent search in Knoxville, and made
fmpient inquiries of otlieers and others"eoneerning
the desk, and have not been able to find it or bear
anything of it;. If the papers are still in the desk
it may be known by my name being on nearly ali
of them. They are valuable to me both a ollicial
and private papers. 1 will pay a liberal reward for
nnv information which will enable me to find said
desk and papers " P. CPJIM'KNV,
