Be it enacted by the Senate and lloure of Repraentatiiet of the United Statet of Amenta in Congrete auemhled, That, from and after the passage of this act, the active lut of the pay corps of the navy shall consist of eighty paymasters, forty passed assistant paymasters, and thirty assistant paymasteis Paymasters shall be regularly promoted and commissioned from passed assistant paymas ters, and passed assistant paymasters from assistant paymasters, and all passed assistant paymasters authorltcd by this act to be ap pointed who hare not heretofore been ap pointed and commissioned as assistant pay masters, and all assistant paymasters hereby authorized to be appointed shall be selected from those who haro served as acting assist ant paymasters for the term of one year, and who were eligible to appointment In the srade of assistant paymasters hcn they were appointed acting assistant paymasters, as aforesaid; subject, however, to such ex aminations as are renuired bv law, and such aa may be established by the Secretary of lac .Ty. Sic. I. And be it further enacted. That passed assistant paymasters shall five bonds for the faithful performance or their duties in the sum of fifteen thousand dollars, and that their annual pay shall be, at sea, fifteen hun dred dollars; on other duty, fourteen hun dred dollars; on leave or waiung orucrs. twelve hundred dollars.
