Tna Ihterocranio Canal. President
Grant's long cherished idea of an later
oceantc canal across tho Isthmus of Darlcn
can hardly be realized, as the reports of tbe

aro oot favorable. It now remains for tho
United States to aid a New York company,

has a concession from tho Mexican Govern

been a sand bar In front of the outlet Into Ibo
Gulf of Mexico, on which there was only
about thirteen feet of water. It has, bow
ever, been ascertained that below the bar Is
tho muddy bottom of tho harbor, and ex

can be removed by dredging.
