I OR COTTON BALES.
UNITED STATES PATENT, APRIL, 1865.,
The above centre cut represents three of the Button and three of the Buckle Tie as they
appear ona bale of col ton.'
The hoop for the button is punched with two holPs at one end and fifteen at the other. The t
band has only to be drawn tight, the holes in the two ends to be broug ht together,-the two I
hole end on top--and the button inserted. One botton will answer, but it is butter to insert
With the Buckle Tie, one end of the hoop la fastened to one section of the Btuckle, the oth
er end is inserted in the other section, and simply shoved through it under the other end as
long as there is any slack. A bite on tc buckle holds it securely to its place (
The hoops are painted to prevent rust, and cut in lengths ot 10, 104 and 11 feet. Ten f et
are most ge.nerally used, but lO ard 11 are sometimes rjunired for large bal. s. The buckles
are fastened to the hoops: the buttons will be 1u iun emal boxiac'
The Weight is About 10 Pounds to the Bale of Cotton.
My Button Tie was the fl:st otr'red for sale to any extent iithe South. anid has been used
