A. swimming trophies were awarded to nearly fifty Richmond men and boys last evening at the local association following a test in swimming and diving. The ex amination yesterday marked the close of the swimming classes which II. H. Corsan, the Canadian instructor, has been conducting here in an effort to revive Interest in aquiitlc sports. To qualify for the international aw ards, the contestants yesterday had to swim three lengths of the tank with the Australian crawl stroke, one length with back stroke, and dive correctly. In spite of the short time allowed for mastering the lessons, for the classes have been in progress only this week, nearly all passed the test. This even log a swimmer and life-savers club will be organized, to be composed of men who are to take up an Advanced study Of the art. Following is the liBt of rthose given buttons for proficiency.
