A Request From the Mountain
We have received from a friend

neod of somo information in re
gard to the intellectual and moral
product of the mountain country
of Kentucky I know of nothing
that attempts a generous treat
ment of that people whom I am
inclined to believe furnished ev
thing considered their full quota
of strong mol for every calling
and enterprise of the state1t
We are not able to give this in
formation or to satisfactorily
comply with this request and wo
publish those sentences from the
titter of our friend for the purpose
of asking our readers if any one of
them can supply this information
We know that during the past five I
years some newspaper articles have I
been published and some valuable
information was contained there
in j but we cannot recall the time
when or the paper in whose col
umns these articles were publish
ed What is desired is some ac
curate statement of tho distin
guished men furnished by what aro I
known as the mountain counties
to the Nation to Kentucky and
to other states We want their
names and some account of their
Lives Is there not some ono also I
who can furnish to The Herald a
fuller account of the educational
institutions which are now estab
lished in those mountain counties
