SUBSCRIPTION YEAR
A Notable Progress.
HE people of north central
Minnesota generally dd not have
an opportunity to see all the
newspapers that are published
in this part of the state and are
therefore, perhaps, i unaware
that the Pioneer carries from
two to five times the advertising
carried by any newspaper pub
lished in Minnesota between
Duluth and Crookston. This
fact is directly due to the in
fluence which the Pioneer has
obtained as a newspaper in north
central Minnesota.
The local advertising carried
by the Pioneer is a magnificent
advertisement to the world of
the stability and progressive
ness of Bemidji as a city. The
foreign advertising "found in
these columns is a tribute to the
remarkable results which the
foreign advertiser has been able
to secure by the use of the Pio
neer. The foreign advertiser
never spends a penny where ft
does not pay. The moment his
advertising fails to bring results,
he quits. It is a complete
demonstration of the circulation
and influence of the Pioneer
when we state that its foreign
advertising &as mereased five
fold within the past 18 months
and that the foieign advertising
of the Pioneer now amounts to
nearly one half of all the adver
tising that it carries.
That these statements are
facts anyone can prove to his
own satisfaction by glancing
over these columns each day for
the brief period of one week.
The Big Stick au&dMud.
To THE big stick County At
torney McDonald has added one
more weapon the fight he is
making for political control
mud.
Under the capablewe use
the work ''capable" advisedly
authorship of Mr. Omer E. Bai
ley, the county attorney is hav
ing a political dodger scattered
about the city each day reeking
with filthy insinuations- as to the
character of the men whom the
business men of Bemidji have
endorsed as fit men for eiby offic
ials. The attacks upon the Pio
neer are to be expected and to
them we are indifferent, but it is
greatiy to be regretted that the
business men's ticket eannot con
duct their campaign with decency
as regards the candidates to
whom they are opposed.
The weapons*which the county
attorney and his political inti
mates are employing certainly
constitute a terrible indictment
of their purposes in this cam
paign.
Cold
It should be borne in mind that
every cold weakens the lungs, low
ers the vitality and prepares the
system for the more serious dis
eases, among which are the two
greatest destroyers of human life,
pneumonia and consumption.
Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy
has wofl its great popularity by its
prompt*cures of this most common
ailment. It aids expectoration, re
lieves the lungs and opens the
secretions, effecting a speedy and
permanent cure. It counteracts
any tendency toward pneumonia.

Cured of Terrible Cough on Lungs.
N. Jackson of Danville, 111., writes:
"My daughter had a severe attack of
La Grippe and a terrible cough on her
lungs. We tred a great many remedies
without relief. She tried Foley's Honey
and Tar,which cured her. She has neveff
been troubled with a cough since."
Consumption Cured.
Foley & Co., Chicago. Dana, Ind.
Gentlemen:Foley's Honey and Tar
cured me of Consumption after I had
suffered two years and was almost des
perate. Three physicians failed to give
me^any relief and the last one said he
could do me no good. I tried almost
every medicine I heard tell of without
benefit, until Foley's Honey and Tar
was recommended to me. Its effect
right from the start was magical. I
improved steadily from the first dose
and am now sound and well, and think
Foley's Honey and Tar is a God-send
to people with Throat and Lung Trou
ble. Yours very truly,
M S. MARY AMBROSE.
