The Minneapolis Journal in an article yesterday denies that the Minneapolis commercial club|had anything to do with the drainage lobby at Washington and says 'Northern Minnesota papers are attacking the officers of the state drainage league, A. G. Ber nard, president, and H. G. Hays, secretary, for spending their time in Washington rather than at home. Furthermore they hold twin city interests respon sible. "Whatever question of pro priety there may be in the ac tions of the officers of the league, they received no assistance from the commercial club,"said Wal lace G. Nye of the public affairs committee today. "A' request for funds made to the club through our committee was re fused. It is true, as the papers of the northern part of the state say that the business interests of the twin cities are interested in the drainage of the vast areas of northern lands that are now useless. We did not, however, approve the purpose of the fund. So far as I know, Minneapolis in terests refused to respond very freely to the requests, and are in no way interested in the Wash ington lobby." The attack on the city interests that are said to be keeping the officers of the league in Washing ton are coming thick and fast It is maintained that the officials should remain at home to prose cute the work, and that the twin city interests are overstepping themselves in assisting. The fact that the prominent business associations of the twin cities turned down the requests re leases them from any responsi bility for the absence of the president and secretary but does not explain the lobby fund."
