We don't know whether to feel flattered or not, but we have received a "newspaper edition" of The Anti-Prohibition Manual, termed "a handy referenceybook tional Association of Distillers and Wholesale Dealers, Colum- bus, Ohio. _, The book states"that it is "a summary of facts." It gives -several pages to clippings from newspaper quotations, from men of national repute, quotes men who are dead, some nearly so and also gives along list of trades and industries that would be killed if the booze were cut out, and among them are pretzel makers and printers. It even includes the tank builders, and we thought all the time the saloons were the best "tank build- ers" we ever knew. It goes on to say if the booze is eliminated the carpenters will go on the bum, and so will the coal dealers, the farmers, hardware dealers, horseshoers, ice dealers, motor truck dealers, paint dealers, plumbers, railroads* stationers, teamsters, to- bacco dealers, etc., etc. In fact, it's terrible to contemplate what is going to happen when the country goes dry^ Since the booze has been kicked out of Beltrami county, Bemidji has had the worst time imaginable. It-has bigger bank deposits than It ever had.' It went away over the top in its Liberty Loan. Has new business houses, new postoffice build- ings, new normal school being built by the state, and a lot more horrible misfortunes Yes it's been a calamity! since the booze game died here. The book also states that it is "the only one of its kind in existence." Anyone desiring to see this rare specimen in cap- tivity come on in. WHAT IS MEANT BY LOYALTY? We wish to goodness the pdwfrs that be would define just what is meant by being loyal ito the government. We think we know but some of the stuff pulled and gotten away with shat- ters our ideals at times. -0^ IT'S TOO DEEITFOR US. At the trial of Max Eastman, editor of the socialist paper, The Masses, George Creel, head of the government bureau of public information at Washington stated that he had great regard for the editor on trial, charged with being anti- American. Talk about a political pull, the best ever. We don know whether to shout for socialist editors, speakers and I. W. W. boys or not, in order to keep in line with the head of the government's bureau of public "information." 0 WE BEAT DULUTH ONCE, ANYWAY. A dispatch from Duluthsays the flour supply in that city is becoming acute. This is one time when Bemidji beats Duluth for this city has been up against the flour situation for the past few days with none available income of the stores. o HE COULD SELL HIS CHANCES FOR A SONG. A snap named Ditty has filed in an effort to pull Sheriff 'Andy Johnson loose from his job, but at last reports Andy was still enjoying eight hours of sleep -each night,Baudette tKegion. WATCH FOR THESE GAS ATTACKS. Watch out for certain politicians who will try to sneak into office by waving the flag. You can trust some of them as far as you can toss a piano.Baudette Region. -O Secretary Baker has doubtless smuggled through a trunk- ul of new ideas on the military situation. He will declare them later, and we will gladly take care of the duties as our part of the transaction. o Five hundred gallons of oil had to be applied on the hides of Ringling Brothers' twenty-seven elephants to get them ready for.the summer season. Why not Hooverize on elephants? _o^- The president wanted an impression of tank warfare, but ..a less vivid one would have answered his purpose better. The mold in which heroes were cast evidently still exists. General Haig was turned out from it. This is the Creel who has written articles for The Masses, one of the foremost socialistic*newspapers in thecountry, whose editor was just acquitted onj a charge of disloyalty. At the trial, Creel tddk the stand in defense of the socialist editor and stated that he had great admiration for him, which backing of the official administration spokesman no doubt helped greatly in "the acquittal.
