And says Willard C. Howe, editor of "Lumber" in Forbes Magazine, "noth ing could be further from the truth than the assumption that substitutes are forcing lumber into the discard. "Consideration of the new industries of recent years," continues Mr. Howe,'"shows that most of them have developed as heavy consumers of lumber. Automobiles, talking machines, airplanes, radiothese and innumerable others have created new demands for forest products. From the time one sits down to breakfast at a table made of wood and picks up the morning paper, printed on wood, through the day and night, wood is a constant necessary servant, perfomning in a thousand ways. Because of the almost infinite variety of the demands for its products, the lumber "industry is not, as some suppose a declin ing industry. Rather, it is an industry on the threshold of greater things." fi EVERYBODY VOTE To vote is the most important duty of the citizen. It is the only effective act by which the citizen exercises his power as i an integral part of a self-governing peo pie. So far as national affairs are concern ed, the issue is fairly clearwhether the .people of the country prefer to continue Republican control of congress or wish "to return to Democratic policies. The issues 4ffcve been very thoroughly discussed on **he. stump and in the press. The Democrat regime is not so far away but that its rec .Aord can be fairly well rememberedl The Republicans have had only 20 months of jpsfall control of the affairs of the govern ment and have not yet had time to com Jj plete their program, but the record is ex i tensive enough to enable the average vot er to compare it with the record of the ^'previous Democratic administration. The Itrr^juestion is whether the country wants to -go back to the Democratic rule. "Be care ful how you vote." otn* God." What the board wants to know is, whether the people want to annex the ten acre tract or buy property further out for cemetery purposes. If you have a sugges tion or a solutipn to offer, it will be wel come. Some people^ are tearing their shirts about the proposed trade of the school farm for the eleven acre tract near the high school building. What's the differ-^ ence. The school farm is under the control of the school board, and the. eleven acre tract is under the control of the county, but who owns it? Why the" same people will own it, whether it changes hands or not, in this case. Cass County wants to divide. That is, some of the people in some parts of the county want to, but other people in other parts don't want to, o there you are. Where'll you be on election day.
