John Cole came up from Lin

days in town. Mr. Cole is a can
didate for the shrievalty nomin
ation on the democratic ticket in
this county.
Sheriff Owen returned Sunday
from Santa Fe and Las Vegas,
where he had gone to deliver two
prisoners to the penitentiary and
tvo patients to the insane asylum
at Las Vegas.
George Spcucc, Sr., accompan
ied by George, Jr., went to the
Oscura mountains, about 40 miles
northwest of Carrizozo, Friday
last. They went to examine a
ranch in that section,

some business matters and greet
ing friends. lie left yesterday
for White Oaks.
Mrs. Laloue, who has been
sick for some time on her ranch

R. II. Adams arrived Tuesday
from Clondcroft. where has spent
a portion of the summer. Mr.
Adams' home is in San Antonio,
Texas. He is a brother-in-law of
John Adams and W. D. Gray of
this place, whose families he is
visiting.

The people of Jicarilla will
give a picnic on August 14. A
dancing pavilion will be erected,

extended to outsiders.
B. II. Mocllcr and Jesse Ray
mond came up from Lincoln yes
terday and went to El Paso this
morning. Mr. Mocller will re
main a few days with his family
in 131 Paso before returning, ami
Mr. Raymond will proceed to
Fort Worth.
T. W. Henley, who met with a
very painful accident about two
weeks ago while returning to No
gal from Carrizozo, is improving,
though still unable to get around
except with the aid of crutches.
His hip was badly bruised by
the upsetting of the vehicle in
which he was riding.
Sid Willcoxon was in from Tor
tilita canon Tuesday. He left
for Oscura the following morning
where he intends to remain sev
eral weeks. He has filed a con
test with the territorial engineer,
in regard to the appropriation of
the waters of Tortilita creek, ap
plication for which lias been
made.
John II. Boyd mid family re
turned Wednesday evening from
a ten-days' outing in the moun
tains. They returned by way of
the Indian Agency and Tularosa.
Contrary to expectations, Mr.
Boyd has no fish stories to tell;
he left that strenuous work to his
wife, while he looked after camp.
Delegate Andrews visited the
home of W. C. McDonald, the
Bar W ranch headquarters, be
fore leaving ou No. 3 Friday af
ternoon. The delegate spent an
hour at this beautiful suburban
retreat, hobnobbing with one of
Lincoln county's prominent dem
ocrats. James Woodland is looking for
a pitcher, but he wants one with
a record something like the one
who twirled a 23-iuuiug game at
Corry, Penn., the other da)'. This
pitcher broke the world's record,
striking out 42 men. Jim says he
hasn't given up, and may ask this
record-breaking pitcher to come
to Carrizozo,
T. B. Meek, the south side
merchant, who lias been ill so
long, has recovered sufficiently
to be around and attend to busi
ness. His many friends arc glad
to sec him ou the streets again
after his loug codfincmcut.
