Henry Calhounv a. CVel: negro, living
near here, -was 111 tested near Wybark by
Deputies Wilson and O'Riian, on a charge
of Introducing and selling- whisky. On
election day of tlu Creeks Calhoun vva

to vote. While there he made a. break for
libei t and succeeded in getting away
from his guard. Wilson told him to stop,
but the piisoner not paving any atten-,

gun and fired. The ball bit Calhoun in

been caught red handed In th net, and he
full cpi ted a plea of guilty. To his sur
prise, when tho court met ut 9 o'clock In

related that they lnd not been able to se
cure an attorney and asked for a contin
uance until 7 o'clock that night. This was
readily gi anted by the old justice of the
peace, nun Prosecutor Allen retired to the
one hotel In Oskaloosa to Impatiently wait
