MADE OF PAPER. T'extile Fabrics That Are Warm And May Be Washed. Scientific American. Garments made ,f paper have long been used in eastern Asia but only in defaal: of other clothing or on spe cial occasions. In western countries the only articles of dress made of paper. until recently, were collars. ciff. and shirt bosoms; that is to say. articles which are usually starched. Now. however. numerous inventors are endeavoring to introduce woven aUi is. Some time ag an Italian Prof. Zanetti. devised a method of making fine and strong yarns by twisting very thin silk paper. cut into strips about one-tenth of an inch wide. As vet these yarns are used for wicks of wax candles and in the manufacture of incandescent gas mantles. A greater advance has been made in Saxony. Here, also, narrow strips of paper are spun by a process patent ed by Claviez & Co. Paper and cot ton are also spun together, so thai in the finished yarn the paper envel ops the cotton. These yarns are used as fillers, in conjunction with cottor warp. in weaving drillings suitabl< for toweling and summer waisccoats trousers and skirts. Heavier and warmer cloth is mad< by combining paper and , wooler yarns. The fabric is cream colored and may be washed repeatedly with out injuring the surface. It is we' adapted for tennis and lounging suits. Sufficient cloth for a jacket waistcoat and trousers costs only Ic marks, or $2.50, and still cheape garments are made for laborers This new product is named xylolin. For such use, however, raw ma terials even cheaper than finished pa per are sought. Spinning-mill refuse consisting of very short smooth fi bers that cannot be spun, goes. as rule, to the paper mills. Many at temps to utilize this material hav been made in spinning mills, and ex perments in spinning it wet suggest ed the idea of further comminuing 'h short fibers in paper machines. I this way a thin fibrous paste was pro duced. This when poured on sieve yeilded a thin soft paper, which par tially dried and 'cut into narroi strips, could be spun into yari Other cheap paper stock, includin wood pulp. c,.n be converted int yarn by a similiar process, and a spinning and paper making mee One brand of these cellulose< woodpulp yarns is called silvali Durig the last ten years many sin iliar processes have been patente The manufacture is still in the e: perimental stage. but definite pro; ress has been made and the industi has a promising future before it. Resistance to the action of wat is another important quality in whi< fabrics differ greatly. Jute yarns, however. withstand several hours imimersi n. but wood pulp yarns fall apart .i ter very brief soaking. Of Interest To Women. Too much care cannot be used with small children during the hot weather of the summer months to guard against bowel troubles. As a rule it is only necessary to give the child a dose of castor oil to correct any disorder of the bowels. Do not use any substitute, but give the old fashioned castor oil, and see that it is fre:h, as rancid oil nauseates and has a tendency to gripe. if this does not check the bowels give Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diar rhoea Remedy and then a dose of castor oil, and the disease may be checked in its incipiency and all danger avoided. The castor oil and this remedy should be procured at once and kept ready for instant use as soon as the first indica tion of any bowel 'trouble appears. This is the most successful treatment known and may be relied upon with implicit confidence even in cases of cholera infantum. For sale by Smith Drug Co, Pelham & Son, W. G.
