A Brief Review of the Rapid and

Town.
Little Mountain is a product of the.
energy and determinationl which have
builded the New South on the ruins
left by the War Between the States.
It was just twenty years ago last Oc
tober that t;he first business was ces
tablished in Little Mountain, sur
rounded by fields of cotton and corn
and potatoes. At that time the build
ing of the Columbia, Newberry and
Laurens railroad was' being agitated,
but its construction had not yet be
gun. Two years later the road was
complieted to Newberry, and today,
after the lapse of only a decade. Lit
tle Mountain is one of the most thriv
ir. to}wns along this line of railway.
Not only has the growth of the town
been rapid, 'but it has been substan
tial. The foundations are solid. And,
backed by some of the best and most
fertile farming lands in South Caro
lina surrounding it on all sides, and
pushed forward by business men who
re at once conservative and energet
e. and who are public spirited, this
rowth will continue steady and
ealthy.
Four years ago a modern cotton
seed oil mill and ginnery was estab
~sed, and it has been successful.

today this whole section of country is
traversed by a net-work of wires, and
there are one hundred phones on the

The town derived its name from the
mountain, which is about a quarter
