On Monday afternoon, April 26,
President and Mrs. J. H. Harms ten
dered a reception to the senior class
of Newberry college at their home on
the campus. There were a few young
l adies invited to assist Mrs. Harips
in giving the young men a good time,
~ and these were mostly young ladies
Who are co-eds at the college. There
was a very unique guessing contest,
appropriate answers to whicha were to
be guessed by the names of the five
senses. Mr. T. Q. -Boozer won the
first prize, which was a button with
the college seal on it, and Miss Va
enessa Williams won the prize given
the you.ng ladies, which was one of
the late novels. Misses Annie Harms,
Oamille Evans, iand Lucile Fellers
served punch, du-ring the evening.
Later 'the guests were invited in~to the
dining -room, whie'h was most beauti
fully decorated in the college colors
and roses, and were served ice cream
-and cake and bon-bons- which were
also in the college colors.
The Fortnightly elub met Tuesday
morning with Mrs. Sam Jones. A
very delightful morning was spent,
and the nrembers present discussed
current events, and Mr's. Houseal read
an article on England frork Stod
dard's lectures. Only the members
were present 'at this meeting, and the
hostess served a most tempting lun
cheon to the following ladies: Mes
dames S. B. Aull, W. G. Houseal, W.
H. Hunt, James McIntosh, Holbroke,
Bernice Martin, T. C. Pool, and J. E.
The Wednesday afternoon club
met last week with Miss Mary Car
-wile Burton at the home of her aunt,
Miss Mary L. Burton. The pr'etty
home of Miss Burton was most ex
quisitely decorated in roses. There
were roses just everywhere in the
greatest profusion. Thbere was a
guessing contest which caused a great
deal of laughter and fun. The prize
for the most ' coreet answeres was
awarded to Mrs. Herman Wright and
the consolation prize to Miss Cora
Dominick. Miss Burton served a sal
ad course and ice tea during the af
ternoon. The guests present outside
of the members of the club, were:

and ferns in every place that would
add to the beauty of -the scene. A
very interesti.ng program was arrang
ed and was most beautifully carried
out, and although the inclement
weather kept a great many away, and
the crowd was small yet a most de
lightful time was had until after ten
thirty o'clock. TDhere was a great~
abundance of ide cream and cake and
after The musical program was ren
dered and Prof. Roberts' charming
address given the members and
friends present spent a most enjoy
able evening in a social way.
On Friday afternoon at her pretty
home in Cald:well street Mrs. C. H.
Cannon entertained a large number
of her friends at an "At Home.''
She was assisted in receiving by
Mesdames W. G. Houseal. Herman
Wrighbt, George Wright, and Miss
Daisy Cannon. Little Miss Mary
Frances Houseal and Mary Frances
Cannon opened the front door for the
guests and they were then met by
Mrs. F. Z. Wilson and Miss Moriat
Martin, who ushered them into the
parlor. After chatting for a few mo
ments with the ladies in the receiv
ing party. Mrs. J. H. Harms showed
the guests into the sitting room where
they were received by Mrs. S. B.
Jones and Mrs. R. D. Wright, and
delicious cream and cake 'was passed
1to the guests by Misses Lucile Wilson,
Lala Martin, Maud Lamgford, and
Ola Wilson. It was a most enjoyable
receptioen and everyone had a pleas
ant time. In the parlor Mrs. Cannon
had eream roses, in the hall red ros
es, and in. the sitting room pink roses.
The decorations were lovely and taste
Mrs. F. Z. Wlison gave a charming
lucheon on T.hursday morning in
honor of Mrs. J. H. Harms. Tibere
were about twenty ladies present and
a delightful morning was spent in so
ial conversation and an elegant lun
