New Literary Society of the Girls of
High School-Committees Ap
The literary society composed of
Sthe girls of Newberry high school
held its first meeting Friday after
noon, October 14.
The purpose of this meeting was to
appoint several important committees
and to select a name. The name Way
erley was selected. The president
appointed Misses Genia 'Wheeler and
Georgia Porter to act as pages for the
The first literary meeting will be
held Friday evening. The following

the Importance of Holding to
Rights of Way of Old Mit
All persons who own rights of way
containing the old Narrow Guage or
Mitchell road, graded a little over 20
years ago, are hereby warned not to
deed them away. There is a move
ment on foot, led by A. E. Padgett, of
Edgefield, and others, to build a rail
way on the old roadbed from Augus
ta to Spartanburg by way of New
berry. Keep your rights of way; for
if you don't, somebody who wants to
block the Padgett road will have your
right of way and you will have noth
ing but a patch of blue sky. Don't
let anybody fool you.

West Point Appointment.
A competitive examination will be
held at Belton in the graded school
building, on Saturday, November 19,
beginning at 8.30 o'clock a. in., for the
purpose of selecting a principal and
two alternates to be named as candi
dates for appointment to a cadetship
at West Point.
