Edgefield, May 1.-The beautiful window that was recently erected in Trinity church as a memorial to the lamented Col. James T. Bacon was unveiled ,yesterday morning, the ser vice though simple being fitting and very beautiful. The window will. be dedicated when Bishop Guerry next visits Trinity church. t In casting about for a subject for the window, that of the Good Samari tan was decided upon as best symbol SIzing the generous and wholly unself ish life of oCl. Bascom. Truly he was Edgefield's good Samaritan. Possess-! - ing a most charming personality and 1 inherent gifts of the highest order,! 1 affluence and world-wide fame were in his easy reach had he located in - a larger field, yet he preferred rather: - to remain In the town of his natiVity, i where he could constantly pour "oil and wine" up5L the wounds of loved; r ones, friends and neighbors. Forget - ting self and self-interest, his life was literally spent in the promotion of the comfort and happiness of others. The large number of friends whose sad,! sweet privilege it was to witness the unveiling heartily concurred in the Sappropriateness of the subject for the window. 1For the morning's ]esson the rec tor, Rev. R. G. Shannonhouse, read tthe narrative of the Good Smnaraitan, t selectiong therefrom the theme for the discourse of the morning. In closing his remarks, Mr. Shannonhouse refer -red -feelingly to the life of his friend r nd neighbor, Col. Bacon. At the con clusion of the fitly spoken words by the rector, little James Bacon Sharp tton, a great-nephew of the late Col. -Bacon, &dvanced to the front and drew -'the cord that held the curtain that rveiled the window, placing it in full view of the congregation. The win dow is a beautiful work of art and has been genuinely admired by all who' have seen it. UNDEHSTANDS, ACCEPTS OFFICE. New State Gealogist Replies to Gov. IBlease's Appointmient Letter.
