DEDMOND CO. IN COURT
Sensational Charges Against Member
of Legislature From Laurens
Green-ville, Dec. 5.-Sensational
charges against J. Archie Willis, as a
stockholder and officer in the Dedmond
Remedy company, a firm recently com
missioned by the S-ate ta manufacture
and sell a cure for pellagra, and which
Teoently opened offices in this city,
have been brought by John W. Bridges
and E. D. Dedmond, stockholders in
the company in which the defendant,
J. A. Willis, is charged with breaching
his trust by not giving account of
moneys received as secretary and
treasurer of the company.
It is also alleged that he has de
ried receiving certain moneys, which
the plaintiffs claim they believe he
has received and with not administer
ing the business of the firm in ways
agreed upon by the stockholders when
the company was formed. A receiver
is asked for the company and the re
quest made that the court dissolve the
This complaint has been served up
on the defendants and recorded in the
sheriff's office, as has order which was
issued by Judge Shuman at this term
of court ordering the defendant to ap
pear in court on Saturday, Decemb:er
9, at 10 -o'clock and show cause why
the injunction asked for in the com
plaint should not be granted.
The defendants in the case are J.
A Willis, G. K. Willis, W. K. Stringer,
Leon L. Rice and D. A. Geer, while
the charges of mismanageemnt and!
the like in handling the affairs of the
Dedmond company are made against
the defendant J. A. Willis.
The order issued and signed at the
term of the court of common pleas
now in session in this city by presid
ing judge, B. M. Shuman, orders first
that the defendant, J. A. Willis, show
cause Saturday, December 9, at 10
o'clock in the court house in this city,

Garlington and Young Must Serve Sen
tences Imposed-Send Down
Denying the petition for a rehearing
and revoking the order staying the
remittitur, the supreme court Friday
wrote the last chopter in the Semi
nole Securities case, and unless an ap
peal is taken to the United States su
preme court John Y. Garlington and
James Stobo Young, former officers of
thle company, should enter the State
penitentiary to begin the service of
terms of three years and one year re
spectively. The two defendants, both
residents of Laurens, were convicted
more than a year ago in the Richland
county court on the charge of breach
of trust, involving approximately
John Y. Garlington, who spent Fri
day at his home in Laurens, had no
statement to make. It is said that Mr.
Young is in Chicago, in charge of tWe
business of the two, and that he will
return to the State.
The order of the supreme court was

court of Richland county. The two de
fendants are each under bond of $5,
000. It is said that a petition for par

gave a decision affirming the Rich
land court. A petition was then filed
asking that the remittitur be stayed
and that a rehearing of the case be
granted. The remittitur was stayed
and after reviewing the petition the
supreme court yesterday signed the
