The Nan Who Sings.
Give us, oh, give us, writes Carlyle,
the man who sings at his work! Be his
occupation what it may, he is superior
to those who follow the same pursuit
in silent sullenness. He will do more
in the same time, he will do it better,
he will persevere longer. One is scarce
ly sensible of fatigue while one march
es to music. The very stars are said to
make harmony as they revolve in their
spheres. Wondrous is the strength of
cheerfulness; altogether past calcula
tion are its powers of endurance. Ef
forts, to be permanently useful, must
be uniformly joyous, a spirit all sun
shine, peaceful from very gladness,
beautiful because bright.
Another Good Man Gone Wrong.
He neglected to take Foley's Kidney
Cure at the first signs of kidney trouble,
hoping it would wear away, and he was
soon a victim of Bright's disease. There

A Woman In Morocco.
All the life of a woman in Morocco is
really passed behind the walls of its
prison-like houses. She sees nothing,
knows nothing, is wholly sunk in igno
rance. She has no social life, no after
noon "at home." A writer says: "Most
of the ladies' calls are roof to roof vis
itations, and very nimble they are at
getting over the lots partition walls,
even dragging a ladder up and down
with them if there are high ones to be
crossed. The reason is that the roofs,
or, rather, terraces, are especially re
served for women folk, and men are
not even allowed to go up except to do
repairs. when the neighboring houses
are duly warned."
- Given Up to Die.
B. Spiegel, 1204 N. Virginia St.,
Evansville Ind., writes: "For over five
years I was troubled with kidney and
bladder affections which caused me
much pain and worry- -I lost flesh and
-was run down, and a year ago had to
abandon work entirely. 1 had three of
the besl physicians who did me no good
and I was practically given up to die.
Foley's Kidney Cure was recommended
and the first bottle gave me great re
lief, and after taking the second bottle
I was entirely cured." The Arant Co.
Cosmetic jelly has been found an ex
cellent remedy for eczema. You can
use it on the face without the slightest
fear of unpleasant results. Take thirty
grains of gum tragacanth and soak for
three days in seven ounces of rose wa
ter. Force through muslin to make the
preparation smooth and add an ounce
of alcohol, an ounce of glycerin and a
suggestion of boric acid, say half a tea
spoonful. The jelly is a preparation
which has been found wonderfully fine
for chapped face and hands.

Abyssinia has three climates, accord

the low country or valleys bananas,
dates, lngigo, cotton and other tropical

intermediate zone recalls the climat*
of Sicily or of Andalusia, in Spain.

Origin of "Whig."
What is~ the origin of the word
"whig?" A twenty-year-old number of
Spurgeon's magazine, Sword and Trow

ing the first letter of each word in their
motto, 'We hope in God,' and forming
them into this word-"

There is a lesson in the work of the
thrifty farmer. He kno'Ws that the
bright sunshine may last but a day and
he prepares for the showers which are
so liable to follow. So it should be with
every household. Dysentery, diarrhoea
and cholera. morbus may attack some
member of-te home without warning.

That is an error. There are many offi

After the storm the Boating fragments
are picked up and sold for firewood.
