This Time the Lawyer Scored.
A lawyer appeared before one of the
New York city boards asking that
damages be awarded to certain clients
because of a ciange of grade in their
street. When he had completed his ur

you ought to know bettelethan to take
up the time of this board in this man
ner. You are too good a lawyer not to
allow that on your own presentation
of facts these people have not the
shadow of a legal claim against the
city." "Your remarks are fully justi
fed, Mr. President." said Mr. Blank.
"I not only expected them, but you
have done me a favor by making them.
There are times when a lawyer is so
pushed by his clients who seem to
know more about the law than be
does that the only thing he can do is
to let them come up against it them
selves. They probably know as much
about it now as I did before. I thank
you for your attention." With that he
took up his books and left the room.

Poison ivy has long been .a mystery
both to scientists and laymen. Why
ind in what manner it causes the pe
ular rash and irritating infiammatior
have iuzzied both botanists and phy
wcians. But Dr. Minande of Paris
says his study of the plant shows that
poison Ivy contains prussie acid. This
is found principally in the young leaves
and buds. In older leaves there is very
little of it.
In three and one-half ounces of young
leaves there Is about a quarter of a
grain of the acid.
As with other plants in which prus
sic acid is found. the poisonous sub
stance does not exist in its perfect
fbrm. but develops as soon -as the
leaves are bruised, a chemical. action
being set up through the union of- an
enzyme with a glucosid..
