On In An Uninteresting Manner.
The case of Newt Matthews still oc
cupies Judge Wallthall's court. The

He denies shotting at Hunter a sec
ond time but says tbat tbe seoond shot
was for the purpose of frightening the
man.
MatthewB also admitted that be had
baen under Indictment for shooting at
two men before this trouble oame up.
He was first Indicted in Houston and
wa acquitted and then in San Antonio
where the case was dismissed for lack
of evidence.

CHAR6ED WITH BURGLARY
Arrest ef Porflrlo Rascon a Clever
Piece of Police Work.
Porfirlo Rascon, a young Mexican,
was yesterday arrested by officer
Harold and lodged in tbe city jail
charged with burglary, Rascon, at the
time of his arrest, was fully dressed
in clothing identified by Max Sobutz
a a portion ol tbat taken from his
store by burglars, some ten days
ago.
A search warrant served by Officer
Harold revealed a quantity of the
stolen stuff, packed awayat the home
of Rascon's relatives, near the G.
H. round house. The prisoner made
to the officers a partial confession im
plicating several of his compadres, and
last night at eleven o'clock Officers
Harold, Denniston, and Scott arrest
ed on the Mexican Central tracks, near
the bridge, Ambrosio Rlvas, Jose
Morales and Eulal'.o Morales, and
lodged them in jail.
Two the prisoners were wearing
some of the Schutz clothing, and one of
them, when searched was found to
be well supplied with keys of different
sizes and patterns.
Tbe prisoners are all young men,
ranging in sees 18 to 21 years, and the
officers believe that they have
caught tbe pubils of a dan
gerous fgang of crooks, who have
been operating in El Paso for the past
few months.
Warrants were sworn out today, and
the alleged crooks turned over to Sher
iff Boone.
Rascon is an ex convict, having just
returned from enforced seclusion at
the state's prison, and his arrest was a
elcver piece of police work.
