DANGER FROM FIRE
On Account of Defection Insulation
To tbe dangers tbat may follow care
lessness in construction of electrio
lighting apparatus, the fire marshal in
the oity of New York again oalls at
tention in his annual report.
"After a nnmber of rigid examina
tions," he says, "I am fully convinced
tbat not a few of our fires are the re
sults of either defective insulation cr
"The openings left in walls and par
titions for burglar alarms, electrio balls
and eleotrio light wires should be made
fireproof, as each opening may be con
sidered a flaw, allowing the flames to
spread throughout the building.
"As to public safety, and to provide
if possible, against a repetition of this,
I think It advisable to recommend the
licensing of all persons handling elect
ric light appliances, and to make all
openings for wires fireproof."' Albany
A Needed Ordinance.
"There is one thing that other cities
have which El Paeo seems to need,"

Chinamen To Be Deported.
The five Chinamen found to have
been unlawfully in this country will be
deported to China at once via Saa
Diego, Cal., instead of San Francisoe.
This change in the ordinary condi
tion is made because of tba exiateaea
of bubonic plague in Saa Franolsoo,
and the certainty that the offioers who
accompany the deported men will not
be allowed to return to El Paso, from
San Francisco, without a siege at

Mrs. Geo. Ames (nee
merly of this olC4, died at Elburn,
iianois, June jz, juu, agea Z5 years.
Mrs. Ames was well known in this
city, having come here in 1890, with
her mother Mrs. G. L. Phelps, wbo
died of consumption in 1893.
Mrs. Ames was burled by the side
of her mother, In tbe family burial
ground at Kaneville, Illinois, June 14,
Chinaman And Mexican Arrested.
Chas. Logan, U. S. inspector of cus
toms, arrested last night a Chinaman
and a Mexican; the former for trying
to break into tais country without pro
per credentials aad tbe latter for aid
ing and abetting him in his purpose.
The eulprlts were lodged in the
county jail pending a hearing of their
cases before the United States com
missioner this afternoon. The attempt
w as made from Juarez.

THE TRUMPET CORPS.
Waxahachle Boys Have Started And
Will Arrive Here Tuesday.
The members of the Waxahachle
trumpet corps, twenty five in number,
have left that place earouta for El
Paso and may be expected to arrive
here on Tuesday. They will travel
through Galvefetoa, Houston, and San
Antonio on their way hare, making
steps at those places.
Judge Hunter, of the committee, was
seen this morniag and he expects the
visit of the trumpet corps to be an en
joyable one both for the members of
tbat organization and for others.
