EIGHT PAGES
WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 2 1904
THE betting in New York is G to 1 on Roosevelt
THE Democrats are Illinois by a plurality of 35000
JUDGE PARKER has at last got his mouth open and his foot in it
THE leading daily papers of the country are conceding Roosevelts
electionIIRECKENRIDGE
BKECKENRIDGE county the Republicans say will give Roosevelt
250 majority over Parker
BETTER prices for pig in Pittsburg Joe Green Anderson says
he would like to ship em a lot
THEHE is not a dollar of campaign fund in this county on either
side thank the Lord Well have a decent election
THE men who are really suffering in this campaign are the man
ufacturers of campaign buttons badges torches etc
WATSON says Roosevelt is straddling nothing but the war horse
and Parker is straddling everything but the war horse
THE Colorado election law requires that voting booths shall be
built so as to expose the voters legs to the knees Women vote in
Colorado
DONT forget the stock law And dont forget how to cast your
ballot so it will count The stock law ought to carry It is a good
law for everybody
Quit guessing contest closes at midnight Nov 7 Get in your
guess and your dollar before that time It doesnt cost you a cent to
guess and you might strike a fortune
u
THKHK is plenty of hot campaign stuff floating around up north
where the fight is fierce and the political batteries are all on fire
They tell it on Mr Roosevelt that when ha was a boy he threw hot I
pennies to monkeys and that when Judge Parker was fourteen years
old ho once placed a wad of chewing gum on the button of an electric
door bell thereby causing the doorbell to ring incessantly until the
gum was removed and for these reasons neither of the gentlemen is
fit to be president They tell it on Senator Knox who is cutting a
big figure in the campaign that when he was a boy at school he took
great umbrage at a studious youth who insisted on wearing long hair
and an air of abstraction that Knox with the aid of two accomplices
did wilfully seek out the aforesaid youth and cut said hair close to the
scalp thereby causing the studious youth much anguish of soul and
loss to the world of unuttered truths and this unfits Mr Knox for the
position of senator They say again that Mr Parker is not fit to be
president because forsooth he rides a dockedtailed horse And that
President Roosevelt is more fit because he is a man of war instead of
peace Men are taken at their worth by their acts which arc true
keys of character and President Roosevelt soldier and true sports
man though he is loves animals and would never do an unkind thing
to them Mr Fairbanks the candidate for vicepresident on the Re
publican ticket who was said to be cold reserved and unapproacha
ble by the masses is proving to be one of the greatest and most suc
cossful campaigners in the field It is said of him now that he can
shake the hands of more people and get closer to them than Tom Tag
girt ever did lie I not only uses one hand but both after his speech at
going through the mob shaking right and left They say that he
really enjoys it too That he likes to get close to the people and that
he has learned to feel that the crowds arc interested in him and that
both have a common interest in the subjects discussed It does him
good therefore to he able to meet and greet various individuals He
is making friends for the Republican ticket everywhere They tell
on Tom Watson the Populist candidate for president that while ho
was in Now York ho didnt sleep in his undershirt but followed the
plutocratic practice of wearing pajamas And Debs has killed his
chances for he chews nonunion fine cut

PARKER PREDICTS VIC
TORY
Esopus N Y Oct 28 Parker to
day made his first public prediction as
to the outcome of + the election In a
speech to delegation composed largely
of farmers from Orange and Rockland
counties New York he interpolated
the following III want to assure you
that if we work hard enough if we each
do our part we can win this fight I did
not feel like saying so until lately but
we are growing so rapidly that if our
people do their best I do believe the
victory to be ours
HANCOCK BUYER
The Hancock Clarion says that GR
RabbitNave of near Owensboro
has rented the big Haucook tobacco
warehouse in Hawesvilleand will buy
all the available tobacco in Hancock
county as soon as the season opens
The announcement of Mr Naves
coming to Hawesville is good news to
the farmers of Hancock county as
there was not a big buyer in Haw
esville i last year and the larger part
uf the countys crop was marketed
in Cloverport and Owensboro tnere
by incurring for them much trouble
and expense
