The statemEnt that Stone and
Goebel were in a combine reported
lv denounced as untrue bv both of
them has been fathered by General
Hardin who stated in his Munford
ville speech Saturday that a com
bination of candidates had been
formed to defeat the will of the
people He also had a good deal
to say about the machine evident
ly refer ring to the
ization of the state The only ex
amples of machine politics so far
developed have been in Louisville
wheae committeeman Jno L Dun
lap has prostituted his position
to the partisan purposes of Gen
Hardin himself by turning out of
his position every precinct com
mitteeman suspected of friendship
for Goebel There is other evi
dence that machine politics is in
contemplation by friends of Gen
Hardin notonlj to defeat the will
of the people but to over ride the
action of the Executive Committee
itself for purposes that may be de-
eloped later
