or against Van Meter thus showed
his opinion on the contest for Gov
ernor but it was believed by the
Democrats that Van Meter Had a
good case and that it might indi

willing to resolve in favor of their
party any doubt that might exist
in their minds Not wishing to vote
against their party in such a case

did not vote at all on the adoption
of the majority report as amended

Of Jerry Haskins Found In Woods

Jerry Haskins an aged citizen
who lived a few miles east of Cro f
ton was found dead in the woods
near that place Friday He had
been in the habit of walking over
the premises of the party with
whom he made his home nearly
every day for exercise and the
supposition is that he was sudden
ly stricken with heart disease He
was about 90 years old and served
in the Mexican war He leaves
several children and a large num
ber of grandchildren and great
grandchildren His wife died
many years ago
