small room on the same floor as
that in which Mr Goebel died and
but a few doors to the west of it

monwealth that the work of the as
sassin has ended in the death of
Gov William Goebel and that un
der the Constitution and the laws
upon notice of this deplorable evenf r

duties of Chief Executive of the
StateInYilliam
In William Goebel Kentucky has

lost ohe of her greatest and noblest
sons Hhigh character for
courage manliness and honesty in
defense of the rights of the people
led to his destruction and while
yet in the vigor of his manhood he
vehas become a martyr to their cause
I enter upon the discharge of the
duties of this high office surrounded
I by conditions and circumstances
which would tax the wisdom of men
far stronger than I Knowing well
the trying difficulties that are
ahead of me and the dangers which
surround me have already com
ppassed the destruction of civil gov
ernment in the capital of the State
hereby solemnly warn and com

place in Frankfort in accordance
with the wishes of the friends of the
dead man the funeral services will
be held in Covington his home
The remains will be taken to Cov
ington tomorrow on a special trains
which will leave here about 6 or 7
oclock The train will consist of
three cars one car for the casket
and the actual pallbearers A
private car will be furnished the
relatives of the dead man while a
sleeper will be furnished for the
members of the legislative commit
tee which has not yet been selected
