I tue and News takes great pleasure
in extending to its many reader

W the many blessings bestowed upon
this section during the year just
closed we feel profoundly thank
ful In Columbia we have been
blessed with good health while
other sections have been victims
b
ha reons diseases and otlier
misfortunes Industrious appli
cation in every line of business
has brought satisfactory results
+ and the people of this town ought
to enter npon this year tho clos
ing of the 10th century with re
newed energy and determination
to better their condition individu
ally and collectively So fur as
wo are able to learn peace and har
mony reigns supremely in this
city and the air castles so recent
ly erected by the enterprising
z spirit that now pervades the peo
pIe of this favored clime are in
deed lofty und n In all
the above blessings the News ha s
t been a participant In tho castle
building it has found pleasure
c and lives today in the hope that
said castles will be transformed
1
into tangible structures that will
prove an inspiration to the hopes
and ambitions of our people

The train was en route for Leba

freight cars jumped the track and
turned over as they went down an
incline The passenger coach also
left the track but not upset The
engine aud tender remained on the
track The mail agent Mr Pen

passengers were considerably shak

The mail did not reach Columbia
that night to the disappointment
