Supreme Court Decision la Kentncky
Case W1I1 Be Handed D wii
s
Washington May ITbe decision
in the Kentucky Governorship case
will be handed down the 14th or the s
21st of this month Already one of
tbe Judges has been selected who will I
examine the briefs or the authorities
This is the usual procedure lu a easet
of this importance all the justices pay 1
equal attention to the case or compar
atively so It is generally understood ho
here that Justice Harian up to tills 10
time has had more to do with the case t
than any other He is the one with o
whom the attorneys consulted in mak J
ing arrangements for advancing the t
case on the docket r
Being from Kentucky he is also as hb
sumed to be more familiar with legal
aspects of the case than any other
Whether he Is the Justice who will
lookup the authorities and make a 1
report to his associates is not KnownE
the ways of the Supreme Court are b
past finding out for sure ho
Perhaps two or three will do this
in any case a report will be made in b
formally to all of the Judges next Sat
urday or the Saturday following which
is consultation
day t
If the work of examining the briefs
can possibly be got through with the
report will be made at next Saturdays
consultation the opinion ordered writ t
ten and will be read on Monday t
If the report is nut ready for the I
consultation it will not be submitted
until the Saturday following ThenI
the opiniou would be given ou the fol 1
lowing Monday
The decision is more apt to be ren
dered on the 14th day of May than any o
other day It will not be ready before
and the court will adjourn on that day
or the 21st for the summer It will
not meet again until the 2nd of Octo
1
ber Hence the decision is certain toJ
come on any of the three next Mon
days with the probabilities that it willI
come on the second Monday the 14th

Hearsts great paper which injected so
much ability and vigor in the cam

comes out squarely for the latter for

The Journal was somewhat estranged
from the Bryan Democracy after Mr

looked over the field and warmly es

al bad a great following in this coun

support of Mr Bryan in the present
campaign will bring it into immediate
favor with the Democrats all over the
country No newspaper man in the
country has more unlimited resources
in money and ability than has Mr

prove a power for good in the cam
paign the Democrats are just now en

United States Senate was giving signs
of areturn to the good old times when
something like honest political meth

that was not creditable to either has
resigned his position and will move to

This is not surprising
Let it be hoped that the moral spasm
which seems to have taken hold of the
United States Senate will he protract
ed That body needs thinning out
badly If every member was required K

to show an honest title to his scat itt
would doubtless create very considera 1

millionaire tenants 15
A reunited Demociatlcparty in Ken K
tucky would be a very desirable thing
and the suggestions of Mr John B b
Thompson with a view to that end are
not without merit but with existing
bitterness there is but little prospect
that the breach in the party ranks is b
ready to be cloned
The platforms adopted by the Re

Massachusetts and New Hampshire e
are all of one piecii all showing a ser

Every horticulturist in the country
ought to raise his voice in favor of pro

enemies of worms and insects which of
late years have proven so damaging to
fruits of various kind
It is said that several of the warm
personal friends of Mr Quay voted in
favor of keeping him out of the Senate
on Constitutional grounds Is it pos
sible that the Senatorial conscience is
being quickened
I
Senator Quay attributes his defeat
to McKinley and Hanna but what can
he do about it in the way of getting
even McKinley will be renominated
and Hanna will continue to be boss of
the Republican machine
