pSpeakingMonday
r
The Republican speaking here lasti
Monday was rather a tame affair in
point of cold facts and potent reasons
Mr Dixon the speaker is a man off
fair address and possesses some atn
tractive1ittings of a ampaigner but
his knowledge of things and events
could not make his audience either
wiser or imore enthusiastic
He had about 100 to listen while he
claimed the earth and the fulness theref
of as an asset for his party His defi
nition of Trusts was too thin to be ac
cepted andhis defense of them to weak
I to be endorsed His eulogy of Mr
Taft bordred on the things hoped for
but neverexist while his denunciation
of Mr Bryan was but a feeble effort
made to capitalize his orelorn hopes of
departing glory He held up tlje corps
of prosperity and declared it to be living
and predicted fearful conditions should
Mr Bryan be elected He failed to tell
the people how Mr Taft stood on the
New Testament or whether his election
would advance the cause of righteous
ness His speech was too weak to be a
credit to a man sent out to enlighten
the people on the great issues now be
fore the people
