DIrigo.
Your scribe has been away
from home for the past three
weeks and has thus been unable
gather much news from the
Dirlgo community. He in com
pany with Mr. Louis Morris of
Louisville, have traveled over the
greater part of Adair county and
parts of Casey and Russell coun
ties. He found crops generally
good and the farmers busy. He
had occasion to interview many
men on the way and in the three
weeks found one Democrat who
says he is going to vote for led
dy, fifteen republicans who
claimed they were going to vote
for Wilson, and quite a number
of other republicans especially in
Russell county who say they are
not interested in Presidential
race, but from the conversation
. of the men interviewed it appears
that Teddy will run away from
Taft in the three counties visited,
and that Wilson will be an easy
leader over Teddy.

.Obituary.
Mr. Asa M. Roy passed be
yond this vale of tears on last
Sunday evening October the
27th 1911. As the sun was sink
ing low in the Western sky,
-God saw best to call him home
to that better cline. He was 74
years of age and more than 50
years ago professed his faith in
Christ and united with the Bap
tist church and lived a consist
ent member until the end came.
He leaves a wife and several
children besides a host of rela
zb'ts and IriencU to mourn the
loss. The funeral was preached
Monday afternoon by Bros. Na
than Murrell and P. M. Bryant
in the presence of a large crowd,
after which the remains were
laid to rest to await the resurrec
tion morn.

Within the last week or so,
quite a few couple have taken
upon themselves the bonds of
matrimony. In fact, the neigh

Bro. Tarter will probably com

The couples who have recent-,

Sullivan, Get. 26th.
J. P. Winfrey and Miss Cleo
Vaughn, Oct. 30th.
A. Bates and Mrs. Verta

On Monday night, at the Falken

ren were awaken by the combin
ed music of a circular saw,
several horns, a varied assort

every known noisemaking article.
On Wednesday night Mr. and
Mrs. J. P. Winfrey received the
same dose. They all seemed to
be happy.
The work on the new Odd-Fellows
building is rapidly nearing
completion. A large force of
carpenters are at work on the
building, and it will not be long
until the Hall will witness the
riding of the goat.
Louise, trie little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Phelps, died
on Oct. 22nd. She was suffer
ing from a severe attack of
tonsilitis.
Mrs. Mary Winfrey returned
Saturday, the 28th, from a trip
to Liberty, where she visited her
daughter, Mrs. W. E. Lester.
She reported a nice visit.
Wednesday evening, Oct. 23rd,
for the first time in many years,
the cry of fire was heard in our
town, and a large crowd rushed
out to the home of L. 0. Pheips.
It seems that the flue was burn
ing out, and had caught to the
woodwork inside', but was quick
ly extinguished, and no damage
was done, except to the flower
bed by running over them.
On Monday, the first day of
our circuit court, there was quite
a large crowd in town. Hotels
and merchants did a rushing
business. Evidently bootleggers
did not suffer from a lack of
business, if we are to take into
consideration the Irrge and vari
ed assortment of jags that were
enjoyed on that day. All stages
were represented. No murder
cases were on the docket for
this term, although the grand
jury returned an indictment this
term, against Harrison Brown
for murder. This is the first
murder case on the docket since
June court, 1911. There were
the usual number of misdemean
or cases. Court adjourned at the
end of the week, the grand jury
having completed its business.
It seems that in accordance
with the number of weddings
recently, there is "also a corres
ponding number of divorces
proceeding lately instituted.

(Revelation xvi, 10.) The speaker said:
Armageddon in the Hebrew signilies
the "Hill of Megiddo." or Mount of De
struction. It was famous as a battle
field in Old Testament times.
The Lord has seen fit to associate the
name Armageddon, with the great con
troversy between Truth and Error,
right and wrong, God and Mammon,
with -which this Age will close, perish,
and the New Age of Messiah's glory
be ushered in. He has purposely used
highly symbolical figures of speech in
the last book of the Bible, evidently
with a view to hiding certain impor
tant truths until the' due time for their
revealment But even in the due time,
the Bible assures us, "None of the
wicked shall understand" (Daniel xii,
9, 10) none who are out of heart har
mony with God but only the wise of
His people the "wise virgin" class of
the Master's parable.
I have long avoided presentation of
my understanding of our text and its
context i take it up now by request
and because I believe It is due time to
be understood. I disclaim any special
inspiration. In some particulars my
views agree with those of other Bible
students, and in other respects they
disagree. Each hearer must use his
own judgment, do his own Bible study,
and reach his own conclusions.
Kindly remember that I am not re
sponsible for the figures of speech used
by the Lord. My interpretations do in
deed constitute va terrible arraignment
of institutions which we have all rever
enced and which embrace good people,
of good words and good works. God's
saintly people in these various institu
tions, being comparatively few. are
Ignored when systems as a whole are
dealt with in prophecy.-
The Dragon, Beast, False Prophet.
Our context tells us that three Ira
pure spirits i teachings) will go forth
from the mouths of the Dragon, the
Beast and the False Prophet, and these
three will he in accord, and symbolical
ly the doctrines are represented hy
"frogs." These three doctrines are to
have a mighty intluence throughout the
civilized earth. They are to gather
the kings and their armies to the great
Battle of Armageddon.
The ecclesiastical kings and princes,
and their retinues of clergy and faith
ful adherents, will he gathered in solid
phalanx Protestant and Catholic The
kings and captains of industry, and as
many as can he influenced by them,
will be gathered to the same side. The
political kings and princes, with all
their henchmen and retainers, will fol
low in line on the same side. The
financial kings and merchant princ-c.
- and all whom they can influence by the
most gigantic power ever yet exerois
ed iu the world, will join the same
side, according to this prophecy
These "doctrines of demons." rep re
sented by the "frogs." will lead manj
noble people in this great army to ns
sumo an attitude quite contrary to
their preference. For a time tin
wheels of liberty and progress will he
turned backward and medieval re
straints will he considered necessary
for self-preservation for the mainte
nance of the present order of things
In giving this interpretation, it is
necessary for us to indicate what is
symbolized by the Dragon, the Benst.
and the False Prophet. Bible students
of nearly all denominations agree with
us that the "Dragon" of RevelatioM
represents the purely Civil Power
Protestant interpreters generally agree
that the "Beast like a leopard" (Revo
lation xiii. 2) represents the Papacy"
But fewer still, we fear, will he rcad.
to support our view that Protestantism
is the "Image of the Beast" (Revelatlou
xiii. 15) In our context given" another
name, "the- False Prophet" We urge
no one to accept our interpretation,
nor shall we think hard of any who
refuse it We will neither slander nor
otherwise Injure them now, nor threat
en them with eternal torture. They
have the same right to their views thai
I have, and the same right 'to make
them known to others. And i, for
one, will be very glad to consider any

sure the true application will fit well.
A frog has a sage look, a wise look.
It swells itself up In an apparent en
deavor to Impress the beholder. Its
great mouth well represents its chief
power, used to croak.
Applying these symbols, we learn
that an evil spirit influence, teaching,
will come from the Protestant churches
federated, from the Church of Rome,
and from the Civil authorities, all in
full agreement The spirit of all will
be boastful; an air of superior wisdom
and knowledge will be proudly assum
edall will croak in harmony. All will
tell of dire results that would follow,
involving the Interests of both the
present and the future life. If their
counsel be not followed. However con
flicting the creeds, the differences will
be ignored in the general proposition
that nothing ancient must be disturb-,
ed. or looked Into, or repudiated.
The Divine authority of the Church,
and the Divine right of Icings, aside
from the Church, will not be allowed
to conflict Any persons or teachings
in conflict with these boastful and un
scriptural claims will be branded as
everything vile, at the mouths of these
"frogs" speaking from pulpits and
platforms and through the religious
and secular press. The nobler senti
ments of some will be strangled by the
philosophy of the same evil spirit
which spoke through Caiaphas, the
high priest, respecting Jesus. Xs Caia
phas declared it expedient to commit
a crime in violation of justice, human
and Divine, to be rid of Jesus and His
teachings, so this "frog" spirit will ap
prove of every violation of principle
necessary to their self -protection.
The croaking of these "frog" spirits or
doctrines will gather the kings and
princes, financial, political, religious
and Industrial into one great army.
The spirit of fear, inspired by the
croakings of these "frogs," will scourge
the passions of otherwise good and
reasonable men to fury, desperation.
In their blind following of these evil
spirits, evil doctrines, they will be
ready to sacrifice life and everything
on the altar of what they mistakenly
suppose Is justice, truth and righteous
ness, under a Divine arrangement
For a brief time, as we understand
the Scriptures, these combined forces
of Armageddon will triumph. Free
speech, free mails, and other liberties
which have como to be the very breath
of the masses In our day, will be ruth
lessly shut off under the plea of neces
sity, the glory of God, the commands
of the Church, etc. All will seem to be
serene, until the great social explosion
In our context described as the "great
Earthquake." An "earthquake," in
symbolic language, signifies social
revolution, and the declaration of the
context is that none like unto it ever
before occurred- (Revelation xvl. 18.
19.) Jesus described it as a time of
trouble such as never was since there
was a nation. Matthew xxlv. 21.
The Lord Will Gather Them.
The false, frog-like teachings wilt
gather together into one host the great,
the rich, the wise, the learned and the
kings of the earth, to battle. At this
juncture Divine Power will step for
ward, and our text tells us that Utl
shall gather the marshaled hosts to
Armagcddou to the .Mountain of De
struction. The very thing which they
sought to avert by their union, federa
tion, etc.. will be the very thing they
will hasten. Other Scripture.- tell us

"Send Them Strong Delusions."
St Paul wrote prophetically of our
time, that it would be one of serious
trial and testing to many professing to
be Christians. The reason for this he
states they received not the Truth in
the love of it (II Thessalonlans it 10.
11.) They preferred their own errone
ous theories, the Apostle explains, and
therefore God will give them over to a
"strong delusion ," and let them believe
the lie which they preferred, and let
them suffer for missing the Troth
w . ich they did not love. Thus they
will be In the condemned host "fight
ing against God," because of their lack
of love for the Truth.
It is sad to say that we all as Chris
tians have been laboring tinder a thor
ough delusion respecting God's Plan.
We have claimed that Christ set up
His Church in Kingdom power, and
that the Church has been reigning on
the arth as His representative. On
the strength of this delusion, Jews and
heretics have been persecuted to death
as opponents to Christ's Kingdom. All
the while we thoughtlessly repeated
the LonUs prayer: "Thy Kingdom
come; Thy will bo done on earth, as in
Heaven." We knew that the Redeemer
said that He would come again to
make us His Bride and joint-heirs; but
we Ignored the Scriptures. We were
drunk, as the Scriptures symbolically
say, "all nations were drunk" with the
false doctrine. It is this false doctrine
that will constitute the "frog" spirit
which soon will begin to croak and to
prepare for Armageddon.
The Bible presentation Is that the
world Is a section of the universe hi
rebellion against Divine authority, un
3er the captaincy of Satan and his as
sociated fallen angels. By Divine grace
Jesus has already "tasted death for
jvery man." and the merit of that sac
rifice must eventually, grant Adam and
his posterity a full, fair opportunity
for the attainment of everlasting life
All who thus see the Divine program
jnd are walking in the light may know
something at least respecting the "times
mil seasons." These brethren "are
not in darkness, that that day land
that battle of Armageddon should
overtake" them "as a thief" - un

TRUE IRISH BULLS.
I They Have a Pungent Flavor Pe
culiar to the Green Isle.
BLUNDERS LINKED WITH WIT.
All Nations Mix Metaphors and Per
petrate Self Contradictory Figures
of Speech, but the Emerald Brand
Holds the Prize For Point and Vigor.
In "Bulls, Ancient and Modern," J.
C. Percy, the author, contrasts the
English and Irish variety to the ad
vantage of the latter. Although the
most diverting bulls are usually fa
thered upon Irishmen, they have not
by any means a monopoly. All nations
mix metaphors and fall into self con
tradictory blunders. Englishmen make
bulls probably just as often as Irish
men, but there is a difference. The
English ones are seldom amusing
The Irish ones almost always are.
Mr. Gladstone never hinted at Irish
blood In his veins, yet he once warned
an M. P. that it was no use for hUn
"to shake his head in the teeth o his
own words." Mr. Balfour has spoken
of "an empty theater of unsympathet
ic auditors." I. rd Randolph Chorchil.
referred to an item of national credit
as "a mere flea bite In the ocean of
our expenditure." If further proof be
called for It was a Yorkshlrcman who
told a meeting of shareholders in some
place of entertainment at Leeds that
"they had been catering for a class
which does not exist and which now
goes to Bradford." It was an English
chairman of a railway company who
said "it would pay better to carry
third class passengers for nothing
rather than let the tramways get
them."
Wliy is It. then, that bulls are sup
posed to be native to Ireland? It can
hardly be for the reason that they axe
supposed to take their name from a
certain Obadiah Bull, an Irish barris
ter, who practiced in London during
the eighteenth century. Mr. Percy ac
cepts this derivation, though there is
another which relates the name with
the traditional remark of the timid
woman who was "afraid to cross a
field full of cows in case one of them
might be a bull." That has the flavor
of the true Irish bull. It is pungent
sharp to the point The meaning
flashes out quick and clear. Other
bulls result from a lack of oil In the
headworks. Irish bulls are really due
to mental quickness, which takes a
short cut rather than the high road,
and relies upon the hearers to show
equal agility. That is why they leave
an impression, while the bulls of other
nations pass unnoticed or fade directly
from the mind.
Here, for example, is a. delightful
ellipse. One woman, describing anoth
er, said: "She would talk the head off
you. I am hoarse listening to her."
Most of us have felt that, but It need
ed real wit to phrase it so aptly. Quite
as funny, though less witty, was the
advice given to cyclists in an Irish
paper, "The best way to pass a cow on
the road when cycling is to keep be
hind it" One is reminded of the man
who said there was only one way to
make a donkey follow you that was
to go behind and push. The same writ
er on cycling once selected "a shady
nook and basked there in the sun
shine." It was he. too. who described
some one as having received "a grand
reception when he went away."
In Irish political speeches bulls
abound. The speakers are carried
away by their subjects and their elo
quence. Images leap to their lips and
are uttered before their iucongruitj
has been noticed. "Why." asked .Sir
Thomas Myles in Dublin during the
Boer war-"why should Irishmen stand
with their arms folded and their hands
in their pockets when England calls
for aid?" Lord Russell of Killowen
was denouncing a coercion bill in 1SSi
and its interference with free speech
"If this measure is passed," Ik; declar
ed, "no man in Ireland will be able to
speak on politics unless he is born deaf
and dumb." Mr. O'Shea, M. P.. drew
a piteous picture of the desolation of h
farm In Ireland. "Is it not a fact" he
asked, "that the only living animals
on this farm are the seagulls which fly
over itr
In every one of these cases the bull,
far from being a source of confusion,
adds immensely to the effect of the ar
gument There are hulls, however,
even In Ireland, which are born ot
sheer muddleheadedness. Such was
the remark of the Dublin university
freshman who was dared to "lepp" a
broad and muddy ditch in College
park. "Sure," he said, "if I jumped
across that I would fall In the middle
before I got halfway." That was ver
bal carelessness. It was something
more than this it was' inability to
think clearly which made an old ladj
Kiy one Sunday when the porch was
Inconveniently crowded after church
"If everybody else would do as I d
und stay auletly In their seats till q
ry one .2id gone out there would be
no crush at the door."
In between these comes a class ot
bull which is neither illuminating uor
confusing, but which arises from a
constitutional bluntness of intellect
To this class belongs the reply of a
servant to her mistress' question. "Who
was that at the front door?" "A gen
tleman looking for the wrong house,
ma'am." the servant said. "1 did not
know the man was alive until I saw
his death In the paper." is another in
stance of the same kind.
