Hon Abe Friedrich is paid
quite a high compliment by the
Daily Miner of Juneau Alaska
which we know is of interest to his
home people as he was born and
rased in this county and married
the beautiful Miss Bettie Newcomb
I who was the only daughter of
Stephen Newcomb Mr and Mrs
Friedrich have only one daughter
Miss Gussie who is very talented
and has made quite a reputation as
a singer She spent several years
in Berlin where she was thoroughly
trained The much ciserved en
logg is as follws The Alaska Bar
Association at its annual election
of officers yesterday pad a high
and deserving complement to the
U S Attorney Robert A Fried
rich by electing him its president
for the ensuing year
General Fnedrich has only been
with us for a little more than a
year yet within that time he has
demonstrated to the bar and laymen
alike that he is a lawer of the high
est ability and integrity as veIl as
a gentleman in all that the term im
plies
In his position as prosecuting
officer for the government he has
measured lances with the entire
Alaskan bar and vhile he is known
as a hard hitter able and fearless
his manly course in public and
private lite has won for him the es
teem any respect not only of the
lawyers but of every reputable and
lawabiding citizen of the district
Before coming to Alaski Gen
Friedrich was recognized as one of
the leaders of the San Francisco
bar and was one of the most prom
inent and popular Republican in
CaliforniaHe
He had several times been offered
nominations for high positions in
his state and congressional district
but uniformly declined this being
p
his first civil position he ever held
Since coming to Alaska as US
Attorney his success in the conv1c
tion of criminals has been phenom
enal having surpassed + previous
records
His conviction of the Soapy
Smith gag and scores of the
law breakers including some of the
vilest murderers that ever cursed
any country has done more than
all else to restore confidence to
those having or contemplating the
investment of capital in the terri
tory and to miners and prospectors
in the far outlying district
His fearless and faithful prose
cutions have undoubtly driven out
large portion of the worst criminal
element in the territory and have
also prevented an influx to Alaska
of those evildisposed persons < wlio
had in the days of the Klondike
rush terrorized Southern Alaska
