The groom in one of our most popular
young gentlemen, and is well worthy of the
prize he has won. The bride is one of
Swee. Owen's brighest jewels, and we are
glad to know that our younu friend was the
favored one ol many suiters to her hand.
The wedding was the brilliant that has
taken place in this section lor many years,
and the company pieseiil was very large
and compo-ed of the best peopleol the cone
muiiiiy. An elegant repast alter
thecetemony, to which all did ample justice.
On the afternoon ol the 17th. a reception
was given the happy couple at the residence
ol the groom's lather, which was an elegant
allair and largely attended. Altera splendid
dinner the time was spent with music
and pleasant eomeisutiou until a late hour.
I was somewhat surprised that E. LI.
W. should lake up the cudgels in defense of
tin- Poe school, as he is the last man who
should have taken offense at what 1 said.
1 said nothing as to any man's ability, hut
.simply sa;d the school had been a failure
for eight years, and that the children had
not idvanei'd any in knowledge in that
time Will he be kind enough to tell me
what per cent his scholars have gained,
and in what branches; when Thos. B. Ford
delivered a lecture there and wh" heard him;
and al-o tell me in figures of his own making,
how much it would col a man to have
his shod if he paid one cent for the
lirst nail driven, and double the
until tho horse is shod? If he
will do this 1 will agree that the preacher
was mintaken, J. B. Ingles is Reverend, and
that 13. II. W. is competent to leach Greek,
I.uiin and the higher branches of mathematics'.
I never should have mentioned
the matter had it not been suggested by
some of our best cititeiis, who ate patrons
of the school. J, X. II.
