very creditable and entertaining and
were attended by an immense crowd
The invocation was by Eld J S
Sweeney and the benediction by Kev
Pr E H Rutherford A splendid
chorus was given by about- forty chil
dren Other musical numbers contrib
uted were a piano duet by Misses Fannie
Johnon and Sara Oriunan a piano solo
by Miss Anna Lee Talbott a violin solo
by Miss Nellie Mann a selection by a
quartet composed of Misses Lacy
Downey Pattie Ware Nannie Swear

The honorary address was delivered
by Mr E H Martin of Louisville and
the diplomas were awarded in an

brook to the graduates Mr Hugh
Clendenin Mr Robert Hunt Misses

Lizzie Asliurst Mary Minter and Maud
Powers The valedictory was delivered
by Miss Ashurst and prizes won dunng
the session were awarded by Supt E

medals and prizes won by Paris pupils
at the Bluegrass Tournament recently
held at Harrodsburg
The graduation of the High Schools
first class was a most successful event
and will lend great encouragement to
the School which has attained such a
high standard under the direction of the
thoroughly efficient and energetic
superintendent Prof E W Weaver
and his capable corps of teachers
Through the courtesy of President
Patterson of the A M College cer
tificates of admission to that institution
were received for all the graduates also
a tour years scholarship which was
awarded to Robert Hunt the scholar
ship in Kentucky University was award
ed to Miss Nellie Mann in Oxford Fe
rn ale College secured through the ef
forts of Dr Jos Fithian to Miss Lizzie
Ashurst in Kentucky Wesleyan College
to Miss May Borland in Central Uni
versity to Miss Maud Powers The
awards to the other members of the
class must be acted on by the college
boards before the same are announced

er part of her vacation at a profeesional
school as will also Miss Hart
Mr Weaver leaves this morning for
Cincinnati where he will work in the
library for a week or two in revising
the course of study and collecting ma
terial for a new illustrated lecture On
June 27 he will give a demonstration
before the Kentucky Educational Asso
ciation in teaching Geography after
which he will also go to Milwaukee
spending on his return a few weeks in
the professional schools of Chicago
