Dallas Tea June 9 The citv today
begjn the pa v ment of the various estimates
for the month of May and at a late hour
tonight all departments had been paid The
tax collectors have been rustling and the
citj found it unnecessary to borrow money
to meet the claims
There is a general feeling here that the
worst is passed and that money matters
will be much easier from now on
Last night the residence of S J Bntt in
isorth Dallas was burglarized and then
set on fire Mr Bntt and familv were ab
sent from home but returned in time to
see the incendiary just as he left the
premises The house and contents valued
at SVHX was totally destroyed Insurance
to the amount of WT00 in the North British
and Mercantile was held by Mr Bntt
George Harris a uecro was stabbed last
night by Alex Fletcher The wound is not
dangerous Fetcher gave bond

incorporation not being noticeable The
next thing in order w ill be the election for

as possible The defunct city government
had created and contracted quite an amount
of debt and the new council will probably
assume this indebtedness as it would not
do for the new city to start out with an un
savory financial record The debts are
legitimate and should be paid
The opening night of the summer theater

day to personally inspect the 700 tierces
Fort AVoith lard which had aimed per
steamer Astronomer from New Oileans
and am pleased to repoit to jouinygood
opinion of the excellent quality I think it
all that my old friends Messrs Goulard
Co New Yoik describe it and as piinted
m newspapers AI I shall be quite leady
to trade with j ou for further lots w hen op
portunity arises If you have any on hand
when this arrives it will be easy to make
me a cable offer and j ou will soon get a
response There would be nothing
in future to pievent jou getting a direct
European matket for this lard but risk in
leakage having to come through such warm

Young Kuhen of this city recently sold
1300 steers known as the Long steers to
Mr Goddard a prominent Hot Springs S

good ordor Col Young also sold 300 steers
to the same party The entire lot were
twos and threes and the price was 514
Young Kuhen furnished the packery
yesterday seventy head of calves
C C Trench got in last evening from
HiUsboro where he had been to ship out a
train of bsef cattle to St Louis and they
were topprice beeves too
Frank Garst of the Sacramentos Dona
Ana county X M delivered 600 head of
two and threej earold steers at Clajton
last week at 315 and 17 a head respect
ively
Clark Temple of Bear river district
CoL unloaded fifteen cars of Texas steers
atKifle station ou the Rio Grande Junction
railroad last week The animals were se
cured in the neighborhood of El Paso
Texas cattle began passing through Kit
Carson on Tuesday of last week and othcts
have closely followed The drive has been
dclajed on account of the heavy rains
Buffalo Jones formerly of Garden
City located his herd of eightythree head
of buffalo on the Hacknell ranch near
McCook Nebraska last Saturday

Lott has already shtpped 143 carloads of
cattle this season and will ship several
hundred more before the season is over
This week seven cars of sheep were ship
1ed to Chicago by Sawj er fcnyner from
Kerrville and s ven cars by Rees
Schreiner to same point
Xine catloads of cattle were loaded at
Dundee last Friday morning by Daggett
Cobb and were sold in Chicago Monday
afternoon a little less than three days run
Ed Cobb saj s he has been shipping cattle
for the past nmo jeais and this is the
quickest time he has ever known Cattle
w ere in good shape when they reached
market and sold at good figures Daggett
Cobb are well pleased with the opening
of the season
The Denver Field and Farm savs heavy
shipments of cattle continue on the Union
Pacific Five trains of cattle came in from
Texas on Thursday of last week and as
many more were shipjied the following
day These trains consisted of from fif
teen to twenty cars each and the cars con
tained twenty five to forty head of cattle
From this it will be seen that some of the
trains had nearly 1000 head As usual
eveiy cattleman on tho lino of the roa <
w ants to ship first and lots of them are get
ting left The sooner they get the cattle
on the range now the better condition they
will be in next fall This week the Union
Pacific hopes to be handling at the rate of
17000 head per week and more if cars can
be obtained
With the rise in the price of cattle the
spirits of the groweis quicklv mounted the
scale of enthusiasm Their oldtime man
ners are resumed they talk in groups at
the hotels and stores watch tho quotations
railroad rates and shipments with renewed
interest It is indeed gratifying to witness
this new infusion of life and we rejoice
with them in their prospentv It is well
merited Denver Field and Farm
