' Warm Weather. Ye.-terday was another authenticated report current in the city yes
hot day an accuinu'.ation, seemingly, of its ! terday that the cht)!tra had broken ont with
oppre-wve predecessors. It U ditlicnlt to write
editorials such weather, and eay to use the

Coal Coming. Wek-arn that advices were
received here yesterday announcing that a

very fine for the approaching w inter.
New Hotel. The subject of erecting a fine
and suitable Hotel iu the vicinity of Broad
street, to accommodate the large travel d.iily
thronging to our city, is being quite busily
canvassed. There are euterprising men enough,
with means enough, interested peculiarly in
that locality to secure the mcoesa of such an
enterprise, if once undertaken. There is no
loubt that a better location could be secured
more convenient to the Square, but because
there is not uuiou enough among the capital
ists aud property holders in that locality to go
ahead with a work so palpably necessary to
the prosperity of the city, is no reason why
every body tbe fhould hold off. Let us have
a hotel somew here no matter where. If ont
is erected South of Broad street, it will lie of
immense advantage to business in that locality.

Letter from Uon. John Minor Botts, of Virginia.
Richmond, July 9th, 1S55.
Me-srs. W g. Bants A Co., dents. Consideration, of
duty to the afflicted alone prompt me to send you this vol
untary testimonial to the great value of " Carter's Spanish
Mixture," for that almost incurable disease, Scrofula.
Wilhout being dUposed or deeming it nee estary to go In
to the particulars of the ease, I can s.y that the astonish
ing result, that have been produced by the use of that med
icine on a member of my own family, and under my own
observation and superintendence, alter the skill of the best
physicians had been exhausted and all the usual rvmediea
had filled, fullv justify me in. recommending its am to all
who may be suffering from that dreadful malady. j
I do not mean to say that It is adapted to all constitutions i
or that it will afford the ran-.e relief in all cases-, for, of j
course, I can kriow nothing about that but from what I
have seen or the effects, 1 would not hesitate to use it, in
any and every case of Scrofula, with person, for whom I
lelt an interest, or over whom I could exercise influence or
centreL Hespectfully yours.
jvXI tseptl JON. Al. BOTTS.
It ha. icng ceased to be fashionable to "fitl- patent med
icines, or do any thing to enhance their .ale; not from any
particular prejudice that has arisen in the public mind
against them, but simply from the worthleteness of nearly
all the "great remedies" crowded Into the market But oc
casionally a medicine that possese. real merit i. brought
into light one that is really what it purport to be. Of
thi. class, Sloan's preparations can be ranked with safety,
for we have heard of no instance where his medicines hav
been tried, but that the fullest satif facti. n ha. been given,
and their Immense tile will full, atte.t their popularity.
