TO THE PIREIC
Of the United States.
AN advertisement of Mr. UDOLPUO WOLPf, lately pub
lished, aa I suppose, intended for the protection of his
fchiedam tehntippa againat counterfeiter, has come under
my observation, and being engaged in the manufacture of
chieditra fchnapps, were I to let it pass without notice
throuith this medium, I might be considered among those
he den minates "J'iratt and Vender of I'oinon;" but
the immense patronage and tuccess that has atte idtd the
sale of the article manufactured by me, and the opinion of
competent Judges aa to Ita qualities as a beverage and its
medicinal virtues, precludes the possibility of the idea that
I am included among thoe he designs to impugn. No
doubt he feels aggrieved at the deprec ation of the sale ol
his rchnapp, which is manifest to all, rince mine has been
bro1 ght into competition with hi. Not only have I succeed
ed in competing with him in quality, but the constant and
Increasing demand lor my article, has enabled me to furnish
it at a lei price than he can, or does say i in the uoien.
And, furthermore, lie will oou become atufid that hi cau
tion to the cit'Ecna ol the "Southern and Western States"
will avail him Dothing as far aa I am concerned, for the
character of my Schiedam Fchnapp is too well established
tn those P'ates, to be injured by any such invidious publi
cation. The motive of his advertisement is obvious to every
one, and feeling well satisfied that all such missiles thrown
at me by him will fall harmles at my feet, I will here, lor
fie satisfaction of the puhlic, publish a copy of my Patent
Right, entered in the Southern District of New York, on
the asiu ol December, ISM:
(Copy of Patent Bight.)
SOVTIJUUS DISTRICT OF SEW YORK, &&
Be it remembered. That on the twenty-eighth day of De

said District, hath deposited in this office the title of a print

wit: " Barnard L. Simpson's Aromatic Schiedam Junier
Schnapps, a up rior Tonic, Anti-Dispeptio Invigorating
Cordial," the right whereof he claim a author and pro-
Erietor, in conformity with an act of Congress, entitled

GKO. W. MORTON,

And I take pleasure on this occasion to tender my sincere
thanks to the public in general, and to my friends in particu

me from my commencement ot this enterprise; and I asure
them that I shall continue to provide them always with a
genuine and supeiiur article of Schiedam Schnapps.

Legislatures of several of the State have taken the matter

PILIS.
FOB ALL THE PTJEPOSES OF A
FAMILY PnYSIC.
There has long existed a public demand for an
effective purgative pill which cotild be relied on as
sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has
been prepared to meet that demand, and an exten
sive trial of its virtues has conclusively shown with
what success it accomplishes the purpose designed.
It is easy to make a physical pill, but not easy to
make the best of all pills one which s'.iould have
none of the objections, but all the advantages, of
every other. This has been attempted here, and
with what success we would respectfully submit to
the public decision. It has been unfortunate for
the patient hitherto that almost every purgative
medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow
els. Thia is not. Many of them produce so much
piping pain and revulsion in the system as to more
than counterbalance the good to be derived from
them. These pillt produce no irritation or pain,
union it arise from a previously existing obstruc
tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purely
vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in any
quantity ; but it is better that any medicine should
be taken judiciously. Minute directions for their
use in the several diseases to which they are ap
plicable are given on the box. Among the com
plaints which have been speedily cured by them, we
may mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms
of Jaundice, Indigestion, Languor and Loss of Ap
pfltite, Llstlessness, Irritability, Bilious Headache,
Bilious Fever, Fever and Ague, Tain in the Side
and Loins ; for, in truth, all these are bnt the con
sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an
aperient they afford prompt and sure relief in Cos
tiveness, riles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scrof
ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body,
Ulcers and impurity of the blood ; in short, any
and every case where a purgative is required.
Thev have also produced some singularly sue
cessful cures in Kheumatism, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel,
Errsripelas, Palpitation of the Heart, rams in the
Back, Stomach, and Side. They should be freely
taken ia the spring of the year, to purify the blood
and prepare the system for the change of seasons.
An occasional dose stimulates the atomach aud
bowels into healthy action, and restores the appe
tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by theit
stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno
vkte the strength of the body, and restore the
wasted or diseased energies) of the wholo organism.
Hence an occasional dose is advantageous, even
though no serious derangement exists : but un
necessary dosing should never be carried too fur, "
as every purgative medicine reduces the strength,
when taken to excess. The thousand caws in which
a physic is required cannot be enumerated here, but
they suggest themselves to the reason of every
body ; aud it is confidently believed this pill will
answer a better purpose than any thing which has
hitherto been available to mankind. When their
virtue are once known, the public will no longer
doubt what remedy to employ when in need of a
cathartic medicine. Being sugar-wrapped they are
pieasaut to take, and being purely vegetable, n
harm can arise from their use in any quantity.
For uuuutc directiona see wrapper uu the Box.
