AYER'S
PILLS.
FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A
FAMILY PHYSIC.
Therb has lorttr; escistcd a public demand fur an
effective purgative pill which could be reliesl on as
sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This haa
been prepared to meet that demand, and an exten
sive trial of it's virtue has conclusively shown with
what success it acconipli.shes the purpose designed.
It is easy to make a physical pill, but not easy to
make the best of all pill one which should have
none of the obiwtion, but all the advantages, of
every other. This has been attempted here, and
with what success we would respectfully submit to
the public derision. It has been unfortunate for
the patient hitherto that almost every purgative
medicine is acrimonious and irritating to the bow
els. This is not. Many of thrra produce so much
griping pain and revulsion in the system as to more
than counterbalance the good to be derived from
thpm. These fill produce no irritation or pain,
unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc
tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purely
veptrtnblf, no harm can arise from their use in any
quantity ; but it is better that any medicine should
be taken judiciously. Minute directions for their
use in the several diseases to which they are ap
plicable are given on the box. Among the com
plaints which have been speedily enred by them, wt
mav mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms
of Jaundice, Indigestion, Languor and Loss of Ap
petite, Listlessness, Irritability, Bilious Headache,
Bilious Fever, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side
and Loins ; for. in truth, all these are but the con
sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an
aperient thev atfurd prompt and sure relief in Cos
tiveness. Tiles, Colic, lysenter)', Humors, Scrof
ula and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body.
Ulcers and impurity of the blood ; in short, any
and every case where a purgative is reiitiirrd.
Thev have aKo produced some singularly sur-ee-ssful
rtites in Kheutnalistu, fjout. Dropsy, OrueI.
F.rysipelas, Palpitation of the Heart. Tains in the
hack. Stomach, and Side. They should be freely
taken in the sprinc of the year, to ptnify the blood
and prt'f.'ve the system for the change of seasons'.
An (H-easioiial dose stimulates the stomach and
bowels into healthy actionand restores the appe
tite and vigor. Tliey purify the blood, and, by theii
stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno
Tate the strength of the body, and restore the
wc.sted or diseased energies of the whole organism.
Hence an occasional dose is advantageous, even
though no serious derangement exists ; but un
necessary dosing should never be carried too f;ir,
as eery purgative medicine reduces the strength,
when Liken to excess. The thousand cases in which
a physic is required cannot be enumerated here, but
they suggest themselves to the reason of every
body ; and it is confidently believed this pill will
answer a better ptiqmse than any thing which has)
hitherto lieen available to mankind. When their
virtues are once known, the public will no longer
doubt what remedy to employ when in need oi a
cathartic medicine, lit ing sugar-wrapped they are
pleasant to take, and being purely vegetable. n
harm can arise from their use in any quantity.
For minute directions see wrapper on the Boa.

This remedy ha won for itself such notoriety
from its cures of every variety of pulmonary disease,
that it is entirely unnecessary to recount the evi
dences of its virtues in any community where it
has been employed. So wide is the held of its use
fulness, and so numerous the cases of it cures,
that almost every section of the country abounds
in persons publicly known, who have been restored
from alarming atid even desperate diseases of th
lungs by its use. When once tried its superiority
over every other medicine of its kind is too appa
rent to escape observation, and where its virtues art
known, the puli'ic no longer hesitate what antidot
to employ for the distressing and dangerous affec
tions of the pulmonary organs which are incident
to our c'.imnte. And not only in formidable at
tacks upon the lungs, but for the milder varieties
of Colus, Covtiits, Hoarseness, Ike. ; and for
Chii.dkk x it is the plcasuntet and safest medicine
that ran he obtained.
As it has long been in constant use throughout
this section, we need not do more thau sssure the
