Petersburg, Va., June 14.?There was a considerable boom in Spanish pea? nuts yesterday and a large advance in price. For the past few days they have been very firm at cents per bushel, and yesterday they suddenly advanced to 90 cents per bushel, at which price there wan a sale of between fifteen hundred and two thousand bags. Later in the day 90 cents per bushel was re? fused for some lots, holders wanting one dollar per bushel. A prominent commission merchant on Sycamoro street who deals largely in peanuts, said yesterday that the stock Of Virginia peanuts was very light. ARRESTED ON A SERIOUS CHARGE. Yesterday afternoon about 6 o'clock Mr. C. L. Davis, who is in the employ of the Richmond, Petersburg and Caro? lina Railroad Company, alleges that ho had seventy dollars stolen from his person. The facts were reported to the police, and in half an hour ufter re? ceiving the Information Lieutenant Chandler and Officer Rozel, of the police force, had arrested Herbert Muirhead, ?while, and W. E. Jones, the latter a ne? gro, on the charge of being the par? ties who committed the felony. Only some two or three dollars of the stolen money was recovered, but tho police think they will be able to get the re? mainder. The accused who were com? mitted to Jnil to await an examination before the Mayor, linth deny the charge against them. PUTTING UP POLES AND WIRES. Workmen were actively engaged yes? terday putting up poles on both sides of Sycamore street for the new streea electric railway. Tho poles on the west side of the street are to be used for the electric light wires and the wires to be used in the running of the electric cars, and also the trolley wires. The poles on the east side of the street will be only for the trolley wires. There Is being placed around these poles so as to hold them securely In the ground, crushed granite thoroughly soaked with cement. The putting up of the poles at? tracted a great deal of attention. There have arrived and will be put In place nt once tit the Upper Appo mattox Company electric light works a two hundred and fifty horse power water tube boiler and a two hundred and fifty horse pnw^r engine, both of which are to bo used in running the electric cars. Mr. John T. Pace is confined to the house by sickness. The public schools of Petersburg will close for the session to-morrow with the usual exercises.
