Perry, of this coun? ty, who was convicted In January, 18115, of killing Thomas E. Bailey at the house of the latter. In New Light town? ship, und sentenced therefor to fifteen years in the penitentiary. Perry went tu the house of Tom Bai? ley just after dark, in March, 1894, und called Bailey out. Perry asked him about some slanderous remarks he wns reported to have made about Perry's Wife. A fight followed. In which Bailey was cut i:i nearly a dozen nlaces. lie lived two weeks. The evidence was rather '? inflicting and there was much to show thai the cutting was done with Bailey's knife. FORGERY IN RANDOLPH. A snccial from Asheboro says: A surprising case of forgery came to light this morning, perpetrated by ex-De? puty Register of Deeds C. E. Ridge, in forging county orders for various amounts dating back twelve months or more, the total amount of which is thought to run over $1.000. Deputies Jenkins and Lewis, of Edge combe county, yesterday afternoon brought Chancy Davis, a negro man, here to jail for safe-keeping. Davis is charged with the burning of the Battle residence, near R icky Mount, sume three weeks ago. Im? mediately after the burning Davis was suspected, but there wns no proof against him. A negro detective. Dennis Rowe, was sent for from Richmond soon after the arson was committed. Rowe secured work on the same farm with Davis and got a confession of the crime from him. He was arrested, but escaped and was re-arrested in Bertie. He wns not taken to Rocky Mount for fear of trouble, but he was given a preliminary hearing Monday at Tar boro. where ho was In Jnil. He made no defence, simply waiving examina? tion. NEW DER?. THE HORRIBLE RAVAGES OF A MAD DOG. New Bern, N. C, Juno CS.?The Jour? nal publishes the following: Ten weeks ago Preston Oglesby. the eleven year old son of Mr. Levl A. Og? lesby, of Wildwood, a small station on the A. and N. C. Railroad In Carteret county, wns bitten by a mad dog, and last Saturday he died with hydropho? bia, the result of the dog's bite. The story of the dog's wild rush through the village is horrible in its train of terrible results, and that one animal can cause such destruction only proven the danger which Is possible to come from dogs. The story of thin mad dog's running ami biting is as follows: Some ten weeks ago this dog came rushing throyajh Wildwood, nnd biting a horse, a hog and an ox. These ani? mals died within three weeks. The horse was bitten through the nose, ami while feeding, afterwards, the matter from the horse's nose got Into the feed in tho trough which some chickens ate. The chickens were seiz? ed with ppasms nnd nearly'died, AT chicken helorigtn to a colored family was killed 'by the dog, nnd the family Ignorantly thought to snve the chicken by cooking it, and the whole family died from eating it. Young Oglesby who died Saturday, ?ras bitten on the face but the wound had healed and the boy was thought to be all right.
