They came here to sec just what tlie situation is and to assist in caring for the old soldiers a: the Home. General McMnhon is a well-known N. w Yorker, being tlie Judge of the Court of General Sessions in that city. Colonel Smith was formerly a New Yorker, but is now a resident of Hart? ford. PROVISIONS FOR Till: ROM 15. Yesterday morning General McMa? hon and Colonel Smith saw Mr. M. H. frowel], the general agent of the Old Dominion Steamship Company here, .mil were made acquainted with the plans of the Mayor and Quarantine offi? cials to transfer provisions to the Sol? diers' H one by nuans of a barge to he anchored near Craney Island, and to be supplied and emptied by steamers ? if ilie <?ld Dominion Steamship Com pany. Tho two gentlemen expressed themselves as being well pleased with tlie arrangement. The sad news of the death <>f Mr. Ed? gar Beaurcgurd WhUehurst, sun of our well-known and esteemed townsman, Mr. E. E. Whtlehurst, of York street, ut Ashevillo, N. c, Thursday morning, reached the city tm the evening of that day. About fifteen years ago Mr. WllltC hurst went t? New York to take a course of Instruction in music. After remaining there three years he went to 1 Richmond, and thence to Savannah. Cla., where he has made his home for the past twelve years, holding during this entire period a very responsible position with om- of the largest furni? ture establishments of that city.
