A. 1 Shuford and C. Geltner are the promo? ters of the enterprise. Negotiations are also pending for the purchase of the Howe shoal near here by parties who expect to erect a cotton mill there. OLD CONFEDERATE DEAD. Major Wm. H. Harvey, chief of transportation for the Confederate States Government, died In New Bern on Monday. The Journal says that his executive ability was so marked as to bring high praise from Jefferson Davis and all the Confederate generals with whom he came In contact and whose forces he moved by railroad. SENDING AWAY RECRUITS. Lieutenant Settle sent away five re? cruits yesterday. Mr. John Glover, chief engineer of the steamer Neuse, arrived home yesterday and reports the work of digging out the steamer as going on rapidly. He says she will be out in about two weeks.
