Stansel, of Robe son county, who graduated In 1S08, and has since been employed as instructor In pTiyslcs and electrical engineering in the colloge. Mr. Stansel was major of the battalion during his senior year. Captain Fletcher, retired, U. S. A., ?who recently visited the college and agreed to come, on his return home, ?wrote that it would be impossible for him to come. It scorns dilllcult. If not Impossible, to procure an army or navy oflicer for this position. There will be four companies in the battalion, with the following captains: Company A?J. II. Bunn, Vance county. Company B?J. At the meeting of the Presbyterian Synod at Ashevillo yesterday Raleigh -was chosen as the next meeting place of the synod. Raleigh's claims were pre isented by Professor Dlnwlddle, and, there being no opposition, Raleigh was chosen by acclamation. STRUCK IT RICH. Mr. E. Wallace, of Wilkeshoro, says he. has struck rich luck on his place, not two miles from town. He has found some handsome specimens of black lead, or grapfhite, and he is confident of unearthing large deposits In the next few days. Mr. Wallace is also working into a large vein of asbestos on another property, ten miles in the country. The texture of the fibre is very flue, and Its length increases with the depth of the excavations.
