C, Nov. 7.?A special from Weldon says: The funeral of the late Mrs. SalUe Long Prescott, wife of Gol. A. Prescott (who died at her home here Saturday morning), took place from G-raoe Epis? copal Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The?servlces were conducted by the rector, Rev. J,. T. Chambers. The funeral procession was one of the largest ever seen in Weldon. She was beloved by all, and the people came here from Jackson, Halifax, Henderson, Garysburg and other points. > The caekct was covered _ with beautiful floral offerings. Everyone appeared anxious to show by words and acts how dearly she was beloved. Every? body was her friend, high and- low, rich and poor, all alike feel a great person? al loss In her death. Always delicate herself, yet she never failed to respond when others were sick or in distress, and by her gentle words and kindly deeds she became a ministering angel. May her eoul rest In peace Is the ex? pression of every" heart in Weldon. The Newton Enterprise of this week contains the following: About a year ago a young lady In the Eustern part of the county put a mortgage on her land to furnish, a young man she was engaged to marry $125 to go to school on. A short time afterwords he wrote to her for more money. She did not send It, and tho fellow notified her that their contract was off. Yesterday the land was sold by the mortgagee to collect his note. Morse, of the "Alaska Klondyko Mining and Improvement Company." Mr. Senter 1? wanted to testi? fy that no such corporation has been chartered hy this State, and will leave for Kansas City on Sunday next. FEDERAL COURT AT WILMING? TON. Judge Purnell has returned from Wil? mington, where he has been holding a two weeks' term of Federal court. Two men,'both negroes, were sentenced to the penitentiary, and several others, both white and colored, were given terms in Jail. One of the negroes sent to the penitentiary gets a term of ten years for robbing the postofllco at Bur gaw and South Washington. The other, an old crippled negro from Lnurinburg, was sent up for a year and a day for retailing without license. It was Iiis third offence. The postoffice robber had only recently finished a two-years' term for -robbing a post office. He was sentenced In May, 1S97, the first court Judge Purnell held at Wilmington. COL HARRELL?"HAD-HELLUW FEVER. A letter received here from Havana announces that Col. Eugene G. Harrell hns for sometime been ill with yellow fever. It was thought for awhile he would never recover, but ho is now much better, and last week lie was able to leave the hospital, though he le terribly emaciated and wasted by hio sickness. He has many friends here who hope for his speedy return to health. ABOUT HORSES. The November Bulletin of the De? partment of Agriculture will be largely devoted to the horse, the Idea being to lay before the farmers of the upper Piedmont and mountain sections the desirability of breeding the French coaoh horse, a good seller, which has brought much money into.parts of Vir? ginia. Berry, corner of Walnut and Second streets, and stole, about $10 worth of tobacco and groceries and broke the money drawer into pieces, but did not secure any cash. At the regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners Monday sev? eral lawyers of the local bar applied for a special term, of court to clear up the civil docket.
