Review oe the Markets; and Real Estate Business. REVIEW OF MARKETS FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL Slotis, Money, Exchange, Bonds, Grain, Cotton, Provisions, Etc. These Are Closing Sales Each Day. New York, July 5.?The New York Stock market made a very striking demonstration of recuperative power to-day by the way in which it over? came the early losses. There were wide breaches In prices as the result of two days of semi-demoralization in foreign stock markets when the New Voile Stock Exchange began trading this morning. American securities dealt in in London wereijdepressed all the way from a largo fraction to 1VS below llio dosing price here on Tuesday. Brit? ish consols had lost ull but 1-16 of a full point, und French rentes had fallen slxty-tlve centimes from Tues? day's price. Such was the striking effect of the alarm fell in European markets over the pass to which the af? fairs in China have conic. To the alarm on account of (he Chi? nese crisis must be added renewed un? easiness over the financial conditions at Berlin, where there was a condi? tion bordering on panic both yester? day and to-day. As the Berlin discount rates have! de? clined on both occasions, it is evident that the forced selling there must In? due to the same sort of discrimination against the nummerous brood of indus? trials as collateral which so acutely affected our own industrial stocks last December. Large amounts of the sell? ing for London accounting had their Initiative in Berlin. . The home market began to rally with increasing vigor after this selling bad ceased. The depressing Influence of the Chinese situation was converted for home use Into a factor of positive strength, and for the first time since the scare over the crop became an Is? sue, the prices for wheat and for stocks advanced simultaneously. The argument was that in the event <?:' ex? tensive military operations in China, much material would have to be sup? plied from our Pacific, coast. This served to raise the grangers well over Tuesday's level of pric.es. The rally in prices was conspicuously aided by ma? nipulation on the part of the promi? nent bear loaders. There was much politic:'.! prediction accompanying the professional operations. A rise of .".'a points in New Jersey Central further? ed their efforts; The movement was nccompanleU by continued talk of chango of .control In the interest of B. & O. The latter stock, Pennsylvania, Missouri Pacific and Reading first pre? ferred were actively bid up by bull leaders. The same element was Infill ential in lifting Sugar over 2 points. The local traction Slocks and a num? ber of the leading Industrials nlso showed occasional strength. The metal stocks were all notably strong and advanced from 1 to II points after the opening declines on the growing conviction that prices of Iron and ap? proaching a basis where consumptive demands will come Into I be market. There were some recessions on profit taking and one or twr> final sharp ad? vances, but the closing generally was about steady near flu- high level. The money market was quiet, nnd there was no evidence of largely In? creased supplies from the July pay? ments. Bonds were fairly active, hut the movement of prices was irregular. Sales, par value. $1,300.000. 17. S. new 4s declined M nnd the old 4s % 1? the bid price. The total sales of stocks to-day were 319,100 shares. NEW YORK STOCK MARKET. Atehlson .26%] Vabnsh .
