It believes In Tooting the Horn of the Town it Thrives in. It believes in the Long Strong Pull, altogether, which is Strength of every Progressive City. Factional Fights and municipal Internecine Strife Stunt a City's Growth—Disagreement has spelt the Finish of many promising commun ities. Wenatchee is Comparatively Free from the Blight of Croakers and Mal contents. Most of the Men here Shout for the City's Glory whenever they speak her name, and this is What Counts. Make a Noise like a Full- Page advertisement whenever you're away on a visit, and Discuss your town. No City in the State is bet ter advertised than Wenatchee, the Dwelling Place of the Gigantic Crim son-Colored Apple. It's fame is sung from Findlay, Ohio, to the huts of the Clam Diggers on Puget Sound and enshrined in the amber verse of the Poets of Squilchuck canyon. We have the "Makings" of a thriv ing, populous city. We are already the greatest between Spokane and the coast —a distance of 400 miles. The town is rich already, and its surrounding resources are still in a primary stage of development. If its future is to be guaged by its past progress, we're in for an astound ing growth. Now is the time to build the town right—pull together for a bigger and better commonwealth—establish a foundation of municipal morals that will support the town on a clean political basis through the period of its development. Much has been said in this paper about impure meats. We wish to say to our cus tomers and to the general public that we have received no complaints and have lost no customers on account of tainted goods. Everything we sell is guaran teed to be Pure and Wholesome We invite your inspection. SAVING LANDS FOB THE PEOPLE. The announcement from the gen eral land office at Washington that more than 1,000,000 acres of land, heretofore temporarily withdrawn for Inclusion in national forest re serves, have been released .and will be opened for settlement at an early date is another proof of the favorable attitude of the federal government towards the promotion of the agri cultural settlement of the country. In the pursuance of a wise polio of preventing, so far as possible, the still remaining timbered section of the country from falling Into the hands of the big corporations that are striving to get all of the valuable forests within their grasp, the gov ernment has, under the power vested in it, temporarily withdrawn several million acres of lands until careful inspection can be made of their tim ber value or of their adaptability to agriculture. As soon as it is shown that any tract is better fitted for agriculture than for inclusion in a forest reserve it has been the policy of the govern ment to release the lands and open them for settlement. The large ex tent to which their has just been done in La Grande, The Dalles and other Oregon districts is evidence of the sincerity of the federal adminis tration in its professed interest in the welfare of actual settlers. Other areas have been similarly opened in the past and there are probably more on the withdrawn list that will later on be released. While the govern ment is wisely guarding the forests from the encroachments of timber barons, it is also doing all that it can to provide homes for the homeseek ers.—Spokesman-Review. COURAGE OF HIGH QUALITY. One feature of the carmen's strike j in San Francisco stands out clearly and must have impressed itself on the minds of observant readers of the newspaper reports, of riots and assaults. It is the remarkable cour age shown by tbe nonunion men em ployed to take out the cars. With a full knowledge of the perils invol ved in their undertakins. facing the certainty of attack and the possibil ity of death at the hands of the mob on the streets, these men have nop flinched. They felt that they had a right to work and they heroically as serted that right. Their conduct can not bnt excite admiration. Were they permitted to carry arms and be in a position to defend themselves from assault, it would perhaps not be so worthy of comment, though even then it would need courage of a high degree de liberately to go forth to meet attack. The courage of the soldier going into battle has often been praised in song and speech. But the soldier's spirits are aroused by the comradship of thousands and by the sounds of mar tial music. In San Francisco a little body of men are going forth daily, each on a different car and each lay ing himself open to a shower of stones and bricks in comparison with which the whistle of bullets on the battlefield is music.—Spokesman- Review.
