The Stato Grange of the Patrons or Hus bandry was in session at Montpclicr Mondav, and was continued Tuesday. Up to three o'clock Monday, 120 subordinate granges had reported by master or delegates, re presenting nearly every county in the State. The morning session of Taesday was devoted to the routine of organization and the annual address of the State Master, Hon. E. 1 Cotton, of Ira-burgh. In the afternoon, the Secrctary,Trca?urcr and Executive Committee, made their re ports in detail, showing tho affairs of the organization to be in a mot prosperous condition. MoXITELIEIt, VT., DCC. l)th. The following is an abstract of the re port of E. L. Hovey, Secretary of tho Ver mont State (.range. Patrons of Husbandry : At the time of tho temporary organiza tion of the State Grange, which occurred .July 1th, 1S73, there were thirteen subor dinate granges in Vermont. At tho per manent organization, December 10, one new grange bad been added to the li-t. During the first half of last year, ten new granges were organized, and during the last half of the ear fourteen, making al together, at the time of our annual meet ing, one year ago, thirty-eight subordinate granges. Until altout the end of the third quarter of 1S7.1, the work of organizing was slow. Many obstacles were in the way. Farmers them-elves having been hum bugged -o much in later times, looked upon the organization with suspicion and dis trust; but the greatest hindrance of all was the almost united opposition of the press in this State, This opposition was not on account of any distrust that news paper editors might have of the farmers, or of our organization, but because they thought oar cau-c would meet with failure. But tho success attained during the present year mu-t be satisfactory to every pat ron in the State. During the first quar ter of the present year, forty-eight granges were organized : during the t-econd quarter thirty-seven; dunug tne third quarter live ; and during the fourth quarter there have already been twenty-five grange organized. making during the car 115 organisation-, or Io4 in the State at thN time. That there should not be an occasimial mi-take-in reports from the s-eereurie- ul subordinate granges would, indeed, be a wonder . but the titan ding of the orgnniitiun at this time is almo-t unprcmlentiy good.
